    brtstevns:

Your question can be taken two ways:

    (1) Can I make 6mm bullets from empty 22 LR brass cases? If this is the question, see Corbins at the following link. He's made dies to do this for at least 25 to 30 years.

    www.corbins.com/rfjm.htm

    (2) Can I Bump Up (Increase diameter) of a jacketed Bullet from .224 to 6mm? If this is the question, see the following link for a discussion on Bumping Up FMJ's. There is a wealth of information on the Cast Boolits site for bumping up cast boolits. Not sure that bumping an FMJ from .224 to .236/.243 region is going to be very accurate as the increase in diameter is fairly significant (probability of "lopsided" jacket compression under pressure as it fills the larger die when swaged).

Read Corbins information but still have a question. Is he sizing the 22lr brass full length in the same die for making 22 bullets and then continue on to the 6mm dies? or is he using a different die to size (derim ) the 22 brass just for the 6mm bullets?

It is a different die and punch combo. The die derims the casing and reduces the dia. some, then the punch expands the mouth of the casing to 6mm so the core will expand the casing to full way. Hope that helps some.

Thanks, that makes more sense. Do you by any chance know that punch diameter?

It is actually 2 diameters. Thinner to iron the rim, then it expands to flare the mouth of the casing to fill the 243 swage core set die. The exact measurements I don't have. I use the rim fire to .224, but I've read everything the Corbins have written (I think).

I think he initially just opens the front part of the case then uses a second stem to open the case before inserting the core and squaring everything up under pressure.

the only problem with opening a case that much is you get uneven striations [thick/thin spots] in the jacket.

Second punch from left will derim and flare at the same time.

Does the case stay on the punch after deriming?

Nope, stays in die, punch to left will push out the formed brass.

Got it thanks, can you give me the diameter of the 6mm punch. Thinking .190-200 at the top?
