I believe Good Cheer (OP) already has an old bolt action rifle, and is wondering what to chamber it in (new barrel? he did not say). To take a .32 cartridge and neck it to .30 is nothing - easy. to consider any of the old .32 cartridge is thus highly appropriate to his challenge.

Yes, the Enterprise was designed as a test bed. It is in the Smithsonian, out at Dulles. We were there once years ago and it was roped off and the engineers were using it to try to solve something that was going on with the one that was, at that time, orbiting in space.

    Per NASA web site:
    "https://www.nasa.gov/topics/shuttle_station/features/shuttle_map.htmlRetired Space Shuttle Locations

Shuttle Atlantis - Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex
    Shuttle Discovery - Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center
Shuttle Endeavour - California Science Center
Shuttle Enterprise - Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum "

    and from "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Shuttle_retirement":

On April 12, 2011, NASA announced a selection of locations for the remaining Shuttle orbiters:[5][6][7]
    Shuttle
    Name
    Shuttle
    Designation
    Retirement Destination
    Enterprise* OV-101 Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum,
    New York City, New York
    Discovery OV-103 Udvar-Hazy Center,
Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum,
    Chantilly, Virginia
    Atlantis OV-104 Kennedy Space Center,
    Merritt Island, Florida
    Endeavour OV-105 California Science Center,
    Los Angeles, California.
    * Prior to its move to New York, Enterprise was displayed at the Udvar-Hazy Center, Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum, Chantilly, Virginia, where Discovery has taken its place

Challenger and Columbia were "lost in service" due to accidents.

That's a 9.5x52R but I don't seem to be able to find a .375 bore diameter liner for it. So, the rifle may just get sleeved to .375 groove and chambered with this...
That's the 38 Long Cox reamer.

    Comparison to a 45-70.

Or maybe stick with 9.5x52R and go with a slightly larger bore and groove with a 38-40 liner and shoot paper patched in the original cartridge, letting the boolit expansion take up the slack.

I don't know... it's another labor of love and who ever said love and sense go together?

You know, I was looking at their chart of calibers and bore & groove diameters.
The 38-40 liner with the 16" twist might do the trick.
