You know it is one thing to say well, I thought I would do this and I figured how to do, etc, etc, but to do all that with the Japanese Army throwing every thing they have at you while you are making these decisions is all together a different ballgame. An all together an amazing man.

Desmond was an objector on religious grounds and ONE VERY BRAVE and caring man. I met him many years ago, his story is an inspiration to all in overcoming extreme odds with the Lord by your side. Gp

    Contrast with this. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-.../3447009/posts
The general attitude of responses (consider the post source) indicates the Navy is in poor shape. Now with the CNO a non-combat-experience 1 star, it prolly get worse. When it first came out, pretty easy to figger what happened. We now know the WHY. Lots of 'bloopers' in military history but this one sounds like 'McHale's Navy'.
    Whatever!

We need more like him, in this day and age. But I guess uncommon valor, was common virtue in those days!

Now days who can give me the most free stuff, that's who I will vote for..dang shame.
