Hot unique load VS rx7 for 30-06

    Finally got my CBH #4.

I saw they list 18gr unique as a start load for a 160 gr bullet.

On here, majority of people arent a fan about unique being loaded more then 16 gr if unique.

The manual states you can start with 18 and work up from there.

Rx7 is also listed and seems much slower power for the higher velocity.

My goal is only 2000fps. Faster is a plus as these are hunting rounds. Id like to get the best accuracy with the fastest powder I can realistically use for cost reasons but still need accuracy at 200 yards if need be.

Does anyone have a hot unique load they can give input on ? In the same realm, does anyone have info on using rx7 for ( all out ) loads.

I never got good accuracy with Unique in the '06 above 14-16 grains, despite what Lyman says.

But 30 grains of RL7 is an accurate hunting load about 2000 fps.

Well the 06 has a lot of case to fill I would go with rx7 myself, with the 150 or 160 gr.boolits,Unique makes a good reduced load for the 06.
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left.

I think I'm going to load up about 20 rounds of 18gr unique and do some testing from my gun. I'm really curious if the accuracy will be good @ 100 yards but fall apart @ 150/200

I use to use Unique in .308, 7.62x54 and .06
I prefered 2400 but couldn't find any for years.
But now the RL 7 is my go to powder in all calibers and several more.
Fills more of the case, has lower pressures, and is very accurate.
Plus there is plenty of data for good loads tested and published.

The pressures with rx7 is significantly lower (via CBH 4) which is what made me really debate this whole thing

I have loaded 20 rounds with the 18gn Unique load. I like the sound of the RL7 load, but thinking the higher pressure load of Unique will be more accurate. Can't wait to shoot them off!

Lyman list an awful lot of cast bullet loads that won't shoot for beans.

I doubt that they ever put a round through a target.
However, they did do a lot of pressure testing.

never used more than 14 gr of unique in the 06 11 and 14 gr were where the accuracy nodes hit with my rifle . I'm sure there's prob another further up the ladder but I had plent of velocity for my 200 yd rifle matches at 14gr heck I even shot a match with the 11 gr load and was still sonic at target . Go with what shoots the best at your given range you don't need blistering speeds for 200 yd target work .

Ru shooter, What kind of bullet drop do you have at 200m?
Thats all the range I want from my 30-06.

The RX7 will have a much more gentle push of the base of the boolit. Less stress on the boolit. Probably better accuracy as well.

Damn it I am going to have to get some Re7 now! It is Alliant Reloader 7 we are all referring to?
Love cast bullets, hardly ever shoot the expensive jacketed fodder nowadays!

Reloader 7 is a new one in my stable and is performing VERY well in everything I've tried so far. Recommend it highly.

I've been running RL 7 for a couple of years and have very good results in everything I've tried it in . I'll add that some of the faster , more standard rifle powders listed have very good potential as well . IMR 3031 is one that I never gave much thought to, but in my 7-08 it showed its self real good .

My go to load in the -06 is 25gr's of RL 7. It generally gives 1850fps.

from my 100 yd zero I believe it was about 3-4 min adjustment
