I'm old fashioned... I just bolt directly to the bench or on a board to be clamped down or locked in a vise. But then again I'm just a Luddite who hasn't embraced all this new technology.

GONRA sez - if at all POSSIBLE - drill all way thru A THICK WOOD BENCH TOP .
Use LOOONG MACHINE BOLTS, large washers, nuts - to mount reloading tools to the bench.

Hava real thick (4 inch on up) bench? Large lag bolts / screws will do.....

Not so much to swap, I just want to ask about this old #3 tool I just bought. Early Ideal, nickel plated, marked .25-25 & 21. In original box, with a DA chamber, but muzzle resizer that is pictured on the box is gone. Bought it because I am fooling about with a Stevens 44 in .25-25.

What's curious is that the die thread is a slightly oversize 3/8". Anybody ever seen the like?

Yep! While we often hear discussion about the oversized threads/dies used until fairly late in the production of the TruLine Jr, a much less mentioned variant is these little skinny dies. They seem to have only been used very early on, and I personally have only seen them (either in person or in pictures) for the 25-20 SS and now the 25-21 & -25. It would have made sense to use the smaller die bodies for some other little cartridges like perhaps 22-15, but I’ve never encountered mention of one.

My guess is that the powers that be (or that were at the time) decided it made more sense to use the same die blanks and handles for the 25 family as all the other calibers for economy of production. As I previously stated, the only examples I’ve ever encountered were from very early production of the separate threaded dies and handles and then very rarely. They seem to be sort of orphans in the Ideal production.

By the way uscra112, do you ever post on the ARTCA site? They have a separate Ideal forum there and the guys over there get very interested about odd, early Ideal products. Mentioning this set and posting the same picture might be like throwing a raw steak to a lion!

I have an Ideal #95, 38spl/357 mag sizer. Would like to make some kind of a trade for a small aluminum handle.

Does anyone happen to have a priming hook to fit an old #3 tool in 38 ACP?

You can easily judge the character of others by how they treat those who they think can do nothing for them.

    Frog,
    Why yes, yes I am.
Phil was a great help in finding multiple uses for my growing collection of universal de-cap dies.
I should have asked him what the internal thread size and pitch was.

No matter, he'll be back and you never leave

    CW,
I'm tooling up and ordering raw materials Monday or Tuesday for "that" project . I still don't have the lathe solidly mounted but for this it's not that necessary.

    Phil,
Thank You again and always good to "see" you.

So, should I throw this orphan #13 DA into a padded envelope and send it to you? Send me your snail mail via PM and I'll get on it first of the week. Shipping is pretty reasonable and that's all it will cost you.

"So, one might casually refer to the 0.400" x 30 tpi "small" dies as being threaded an oversize 3/8" (0.375"), or even a
grossly undersized 7/16" (0.4375"). (Incidentally, this is the same thread used on the large decapping stems for the 310 tools.) "

I believe I've found my answer.
    Any comment?

Is it there yet? Don’t worry about shipping cost… I’ve had a couple of happy surprises from fellow enthusiasts lately.

Well, I finally found myself a #17 shell adapter for my .380 die set. It happened to come in a set of 9mm dies and I figured I might as well add another set of handles... This will give me one handle for .38/.357, one for .45 ACP / .45 Colt, and now one for .380ACP/9mm.

Sounds like a plan! I’ve noticed the hardest part of changing calibers in a 310 Tong Tool is trying to change that **** adaptor and its tiny little screw!

I have a few extra universal decapping dies, I'd be interested in finding other uses for them.
