    7.62x54R

    Just curious.
With all the oversized groove diameters out there is anyone shooting black and paper patches?

Wow. Maybe like as-fired cases with a new primer would be required?

That certainly gives me something to remember in future experimentation.

I've only used smokeless and 312 projectiles.
I bought a couple boxes of ppu soft points for my reloadable brass.

I was just considering this as I stared at a really nice Argentine Mauster that had been rebarreled...How would Black do in a bottle neck cartridge like this?

Okay, I got to the smashing the cinder blocks with the butt of the gun and had to quit. I don't give a flying pig wether they made a BILLION of them, you don't do vintage, no longer made firearms that way.

And that boy jacks his jaw too much for my taste.

And its 7.65X53R, thank you very much,,,,,,,.

    GET OFF MY LAWN!!

BTW, what's the deal with the T-shirt GC?

Seems you missed the point Hamish. They tried black powder in some of the reloads...like was asked above if anyone had tried.

I played with black powder in 7.62X54r with 200gr .309 PP up to .315 it worked pretty well. But you have to figure out how to put a grease cookie in the neck of the case. I used wax paper to separate the grease cookie from powder and the bullet.

FWIW, while the 7.62x54R was designed as a smokeless cartridge, during both the Russo-Japanese War and later during WWI there are stories of it being loaded with BP due to shortages of smokeless powder. Since the 303 Brit was also intended for smokeless but began life loaded with BP, it's certainly a feasible idea. All the usual BP loading caveats apply and some of a lube cookie would be a good idea to help keep the fouling nice and soft.

Could one use Fffg with the Mosin? It's smokeless load is high pressure I bet FFFg would be fine.
