Question: What is the max weight you can get ( core + jacket ) when using 22 shorts?

I was wondering if a 22 short jacket was large enough to make a 40gr round nose. Trying to duplicate a 22LR slug without the heal.

I want to try in 22 TCM and another wildcat.

    Quick test

40gr is doable. A quick test with my 6s point form gave the following.

The 40gr bullet at the bottom is a 22-TCM at a length of .492"
    The short case is .416"
    The de-rimmed case is .456"
    The lead core is .406"

The seated core has a fair amount of room

Using the 6S point form you can get about the same length as the factory bullet but less bearing surface. A rounder nose would be better.

I'm not sure what the twist is for the 22-TCM in the 1911 is but the rifle is 1/16 so the bullet should not go up in a cloud of smoke.

    Hope this helps.

I think the short would be a good jacket for a projectile with a lead tip with a 1E nose. I have no access to any shorts. I have made 40 gn in 6S and 1E made from .22RF trimmed as required.
As stated above the 40gn in 6S has little bearing surface and average in the accuracy department. The 1E was a far better projectile but I needs a jacket that was .480" long to have the lead about .020" below the tip. Derimming punch was .199" through a Corbin derimmed die. Picture is a 40gn 1E, 55 6S, and 69gn 6S.
The 40gn is my main stay in the Hornet.

    Unhappy

This form just crashed and trashed my 40minute long reply saying it was too short. I'm too pissed to retype the whole thing again.
