I think it is a personal thing, I too like my beans well cooked. When I was in Louisianan I found almost all the place that sold red beans and rice, the bean where not cooked enough for my liking.
Bees wax is edible, but the other ingredients, I'm not sure. Sure wouldn't want any surprises.
Micah 6:8
He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

Beans & rice?

Lol, poor ra454, the thread drift is catastrophic!
I don't have any experience making Ben's Red but someone will be along shortly who does.
"Is all this REALLY necessary?"
My batch came out pretty much as you describe yours. I even added a bit more beeswax as I was worried about all the grease. I am still tinkering with it in various calibers. I have not pushed it hard as of yet. I made it just to try something different. I have enough supplies for a life time supply of FWFL.
The bens was supposed to have been less smoke. I found it to no better or worse.
I have only tried it in handgun cartridges, 32's,357,44 and 45 colt.
Ben's Red is soft enough to mash into your lubri sizer (or even better, re melt and pour into a lubri sizer) and yes, it's a bit sticky.
For me those very features help it to lay down a consistent bore condition shot after shot. My first shots are in the group with Ben's Red and i don't get flyers with it.
I run it from 1275 fps. to 2500 fps. in my 35 whelen with zero problems.
My groups don't change from the cold of winter right through the summer heat.
It's soft enough to fling off the boolit quickly on exit from the bbl., which is another plus for it. It's sticky enough to adhere to the boolits well for storage.
Win win situation to me! Yeah, i love Ben's Red and the BLL lube he came up with too.
thanks for the replies , I pan lubed 100 rds and they are ready to load . Ill take them to the range later this month. Yes I too like my beans well cooked!

Red and Tacky=sticky
A small amount of paraffin will stiffen the Ben's Red.
Take the back side of you cooking spoon and mash some of the cooked beans against the side of the pot and stir to thicken the gravy , to solve the red bean consistency problem.

I have been using Ben's red lube. It is sticky but it lubes very well no lead in the barrel at all, some blows back on the slide but no problem. I shoot IDPA and USPSA I also have given it to a friend to shoot it also. Works very well for both of us. 124 gr 9mm around 1025 and 175 gr 40cal about 940. I remelt it and pore it in to the lube sizer some what of a pain but it works.

if you add the extra B-wax [10%] and pour the batch into a cake pan you can cut it into strips about 1/2" wide.
if your using a lyman type sizer you just wind the strips in around the tube in there.
if your using a star cut them into squares about 3/4" X 3/4" and 4" long, they will drop right into the sizer.
You can even put it into tube form to fit your lubrisizer.
What's your recipe? Temps?
