Johnson Paste Wax...what does it do?

I just made a nice batch of green speed. Tried pan lubing some bullets with mixed results. Some filled out the lube rings nicely while other bullets didn't so well. I'm working on that...heating bullets prior to pouring lube and all. I do notice that the green speed is a bit tacky and I can spread it around into the missed lube rings if I'm carefull. What would make the lube a bit more stiff, and help it bind to the bullets better during punch out with thumbs?

Justs what does Johnson Paste Wax add to the mix? I happen to have some and noticed it being an ingredient in various recipes.

    Johnsons Paste Wax
By weight: Isoparaffinic hydrocarbon solvent 75-85%, Paraffin wax 10-30%, Carnauba Wax 5-10%.
Used as a finished wood wax, also on bare metal to retard rust. Used in bullet lube blended with various lube ingredients and alone as lube. There are several good discussions on Johnsons Paste Wax as bullet lube at "CastBoolits.com", use the search function and type in Johnsons Paste Wax.

    it won't help you.

more bees wax will stiffen it up.
    as far as sticky.
    lanolin is about the best.
paratack would be next, you can find that in STP or Lucas oil treatment.

So are you saying adding Lanolin to my Green Speed would stiffen my lube? I have both liquid and solid paste Lanolin. How much should I add? I also have STP fuel treatment. Does that have the paratack as well?

I just prefer to heat my bullets and let them melt the lube and sit on wax paper to solidify if I'm doing a hand full.
Or just chuck a pile on the lube tin with a double boiler and wait till they are all good and melted...then pick them out one at a time with small tweezers and stand them up on the paper.

A bit of paraffin wax I believe will stop some of the finger sticky/tackiness some what.

Don't know if its the right thing to do or not thou.

If you want to add Carnuba wax, buy the pure stuff and don't mess with the teeny bit in JPW. I now use JPW for the tops of my power tools and saws to make them slick and prevent binding.

I also make my own custom antique furniture waxes using several natural waxes in a formula I developed years ago. Sorry, I do not share it!

I PC all my boolits now and do not brew up lubes any longer.

I used a lube very similar to speed green when I tried pan lubing, I thought it was extremely messy and difficult to clean up the mess. There are some here that have success pan lubing, I guess? I surely didn't. I bought a used Lyman 45 lubesizer and never looked back. Once it's setup, it's trouble free and mess free.
    Good Luck,
    Jon

lanolin will make the lube stickier.
the gas additive does not have paratack in it.

paratack is an additive for oils.
it adds shear strength and makes the oil cling better.
you have probably seen the little displays in the auto parts store where the oil climbs up the little wheels further with the additive.
the ingredient that does all the work there is paratack.

to make the lube stiffer just add more bees-wax, just another 5% will make a big difference.

I will give this a try.

Can anyone tell me how much the Green Speed recipe smokes? Will the substitution of the 2 cycle oil make a difference, more smoke?
