    Hollywood universal turret

What are the proper handle dimensions?

Depends on which model you are talking about and the date of manufacture. I have one with a short wooden handle, and another with a long, steel handle. Which one do you need the dimension on?

I have 4 Hollywood Turret presses.

    3 Senior Turrets,
The hole for handle is the same on all 3, the larger ones main handles are stepped up.

    2, handles measure 7/8" x 20"
(18-1/2" from handle side edge of main cross shaft to top of handle)
(19-3/4" top of handle to center of main shaft)

    1, handle measure 3/4" x 15-1/4"
(13-3/4" from handle side of main cross shaft to top of handle)
(14-1/2" top of handle to center of main shaft)
This one has other differences in parts manufacture as well.

1 Universal Turret, handle measures 7/8" x 13-3/4" measuring from top of handle casting boss to top of handle.
(18" top of handle to center of main shaft link pin)

    Hey Kevin,
I see at least 3 books on the shelf that I have copies of. You have good taste in loaders and books also.

Troy, look on the right side of the frame.

If it says Hollywood Turret Tool in the middle of the frame, then it is the 20 lb aluminum framed Turret Tool and uses the handle described by Earl Brasse.

If it says Universal on the front edge of the right side, then it is a 50 lb cast steel Model B, or Model B Special/Model III. Those take the handle that are steel shanked with a wooden handle that is similar to a file handle.

Post some pics if you are not sure.

Kevin, I have the same set of HL Digests along with all the ABC's. I've read them many times but still enjoy going back thru them. I always liked Dean Grennell writings. Anyone know why he did most everything out in the drive way? Good thing he lived where it was sunny.

i have them all as well. I am also a big Dean Grennell fan. He was the only gun writer that I recall promoting and using H&G moulds, Saeco sizers and moulds, the C&H Champion, the Hollywood Senior Turret press....

Here is the press with a 45/120 case. It is cast steel or iron.

    Hollywood universal turret

    Very nice looking press!

Looks like you have a Model II.

Its not a B Model because the back is straight rather than angled. At least it looks straight in your photos? It's not a III because it does not have 3 turrets. It's not a Model II Special because it's the 3 turrets that make it "special".

It takes the metal shank with wooden handle for a pull handle.

I have no idea where to get the proper sized wooden handle for that .625 shaft. 50bmg found some, but they weren't large enough. I remember a few years back that Gearhead found some, but he never answered me as to where he got them.

If you look at that Huge Hollywood press collection for sale on eBay, it appears that guy has new handles. Maybe he can tell where to get them.

I appreciate the infomation. I'll make a handle. I am using an extra that came from Lee's classic cast SS.
