Window shopping older Browning BAR detachable mag 338 Winchester Magnum questionier

Being we still live in WA and both considered legally disabled, we can hunt out off an ATV, Side X side and a vehicle.
Question is when did they quit making the fully detachable magazine?
I am fully aware of the swing down/drop down magazine and would not consider this type for a purchase.

This is just a guess, but I think it was after the A-Bolt came out. So sometime in the 80's??

To be honest, I never noticed they switched magazine styles; I couldn't afford a BAR when I was younger and by the time I could, I was more interested in bolt actions.

AFAIK, the sporting Browning BAR has always had a fully detachable magazine, all versions having the same detachment system, from introduction to today - the magazine being able to be detached from the floorplate, after the floorplate's swung down/open.

The Remington 740/742/7400/Model Four's and some Ruger's are the CF autoloaders issued with a plain detachable magazine.

Duke if you can't kill something with 4 rounds from a 338 Win Mag then you are hunting the wrong thing in the wrong place. Based on what my gun does to pumpkins with 225 gr corlocs I have decided that it is not a deer gun. Lions,Tigers and Bears along with Elk and Moose.

Penny's sold the BAR in their big catalog in the 70's and 80's for $300.00.

That would have only been six thousand bales of hay at a nickel a bale on my best paying summer job. Trouble was I was trying to support myself on that job too.

The 338 with a 300 grainer I personally feel is marginal. Especially for an old man like myself that can't chase and track game into the woods. 1100 pounds of I don't want to be eaten today. lol

The older ones had complete detachable magazines. No floor plate.

Could you please provide a reference ?

I bought a new .30-06 BAR in the late 60's, and it's magazine was attached to the hinged floorplate.

I think all bar rifles have the hinged type floorplate, at least the one I've seen. That's a beautiful bull by the way!

Looks like the Browning will be nice to own but not applicable seeing it doesn't have a quick detachable magazine.
I'm going to have a look at some vintage Colt Sauer's with detachable magazines..............................

I've got a Ruger M77 tang safety in 338 just sitting in the safe. Maybe if I ever get to go on one of those fancy pay hunts. Since I live and hunt in GA, 338 WM is overkill for anything in these parts.
