New Star Sizer

I just acquired a Star sizer. It works well, but I noticed that there is a pin protruding from the top of one of the two steel rods that the top punch moves up and down on. Sorry I don't know the nomenclature of the sizer. I don't think it should be like that. It works. But I would like it returned to original configuration. If anyone can help, please repley. Thanks

The good news about the Star sizer is that there was no set-up involved. The machine came with a .452 die and there happened to be a bullet still in the die. I had just cast 1000 bullets with my new to me Hensley and Gibbs #130 mould, so I thought I would try sizing a few to see how/if it worked. Low and behold, a H&G #130 popped out! I didn't have to do any set-up, just cranked out 1000 sized and lubed bullets.

And I believe if you push some H&G 68's through they'll work fine too .

By the way, it was set up as a base first. The top punch was machined to accept the nose of the bullet. Would the #68 still work with the #130 set-up?

I believe it would still work but would not be optimum. only the nose of the 68 would be hitting the top punch. This would allow some misalignment as the bullet starters into the sizer. The sizing die may have enough "freebore" where the 68 is in the sizer and misalignment would be minimal.

Lathesmith will make you a hollow punch so you could put epoxy putty or something in it to form to the nose of the #68. That way it will be pushed in straight.

Why not turn them over , and run them through base up , just fill in your top punch with j b weld . That will make it possible to lube most 45acp cast without changing adjustment .
