Here's a pic of some RCBS 7mmx168 SP cooling on my windowsill. The pie plate has a five inch circle of non-stick foil in the bottom and the 'racks' are from 1/2" mesh hardware cloth, one standing up from the plate 1/4" and the other up 3/4". Placing those tall boolits into the grid with the padded needle-nose pliers is relatively easy and they don't fall over when you move the plate. It works for me.

'PDS'...pretty dang slick...the mesh doesn't leave any marks on the drive bands below?

I don't have a problem with the .323", but the .309's give me a fit.

    Standing Tall Boolits.

Cool idea! Currently trying to figure out a good way to coat my 311-230-fn projectiles for my 300blk. Might have to give this a try. Does the pc stick to the mesh at all?

I spray mine and then transfer directly into the oven. A person could also tumble coat first and transfer just as well, but you are limited to working with a cool oven.

I have to admit SOME sticking to the mesh that affects cosmetics but the lower grid clears the drive bands. If you make such a double-layer grid, custom fit it to YOUR boolits. I have made twoClick image for larger version.

ID:	170499 so far to fit various. It helps if you tie the two together with twists of paper-clip wire to maintain the desired separation.

ID:	176923 Here's 55 LEE C309-200-R's PC'd with Smoke's Carolina Blue, cooling on my windowsill today. The racks, assembled from 1/2" hardware cloth (tied with paper-clip wire) WORK. They sit on a circle of non-stick AF that has another 1/2" hardware cloth grid UNDER it to make 'pockets' for the boolits' bases to sit in. In that 8" recycled alum pie plate the rack will hold a max of 76 tall boolits. Incidentally, these particular ones got a second coat and were GC'd and sized .314 as '.303 Brit Moose Penetrators', LOL. I have different configurations of racks for different boolits.

This validates the standup grid concept that dutchnija documented in

    http://castboolits.gunloads.com/show...-Rifle-Methods

Standup grid techniques for tall bullets appears to work and provide coverage for the base and drive bands without marking. Great work.

Great idea. Every thing I want, dry application, single coat, using PC. The hardware cloth or cooling rack or any useful metal grid and off you go.

I use a grid of 9mm pistol cases that I drilled the primers out and bolted to a steel plate. I drop the rifle bullets in nose first and spray and bake. I have 50 on a plate and have several plates. It is a pain to make but works for me.

You don't need expensive thick aluminium plate. Costco sells aluminum baking 1/2 sheets that you can drill. They can be turned upside down or most anything along the edges used to raise them just a tad. Amazon also sell vented baking sheets that are even easier to make by just enlarging the holes.

I have not had much problems with tall bullets. The 230gr NOE .311 is pretty tall. Being rather careful moving them from the bench to the toaster oven, a few might fall over, I just stand them back up and bake.

While discussing this idea with a friend who got frustrated trying to stand his boolits, I had a thought. What if you sprayed the mesh with silicone spray? I think it would help to keep the boolits from being marked by the mesh.
