ETR-7 Update Anyone? 45 Data Looks Odd

I have plenty of this powder and would like to use it for 9mm, 40, and 45acp. I read it can be used for 223 too.

Finding data is hard and then there's the CSB-1 mystery, if it's actually the same stuff or not.

I have some hi-tek coated 200gr 45acp ready to load. Expansion Industries data looks odd. I'm used to lead bullets using LESS powder the FMJ. Their data lists lead as MORE powder than FMJ. Is that a typo?

I've researched lots of forums and many are using 4.5-5.5gr, no where near the 5.8-6.3 Expansion lists.

Here's a link to their 45acp load data.

Well the dumb picture cant enlarge. They list 200gr LEAD as 5.8-6.3 and 200gr FMJ as 4.6-5.2

Where's that data from? Is 5.9 starting or high limit?

I use 5.9 to 6.0 grs with 200 gr SWC cast. I love the powder. Bought 8 pounds when they had a REALLY good sale.

I'm using 4.5 gr ETR-7 under a Lyman 452460 200 gr SWC for target work. For more oomph, 5.0 gr ETR-7 under a Lee 452-230 TC. Shoots good!

I believe I've read that TiteGroup data can be used in the Expansion Industries write up on the powder. ETR-7 is just a tad slower.

CSB-1 is supposed to be more like Universal.

I follow their exact suggestions of mirroring TiteGroup which has load data in spades everywhere. Very close. Close enough for my uses........and governement work!

That is all I ever use today. And the data is good. Try looking up TG data in the books you have. Or buy some books! I suggest the Lyman #4 CBH for excellent load data on all the cals you list. I load those all also (+ more) and have excellent performance. In 223's it's mainly plinking loads (good 22LR replacement) and not full house rifle loads. I use other powders for those......X-Terminator.

I do NOT ever list actual load data I use on any net site, forum, or blog. That is YOUR responsibilty to figure that out........on your own......and verify it for yourself.

DO NOT EVER USE data from forums without direct verification against published data you have.

The fingers, hand, eyes, life you save may be your OWN!

I use 5gr with the 200gr and it works fine. Due to their unsavory bait and switch selling model I won't buy from them anymore.

Some complain about the company and bad experiences with them. Sorry to hear about that. I have ordered 3X and had shipments within ~1 week of ordering exactly what I ordered.

It it the cleanest burning powder I have ever used. I follow the TG data as I said above and have excellent results in everything from 223 thru 45LC for 90% of what I load and shoot....subsonic. TG data is EVERYWHERE for just about EVERYTHING.

I use 5gr under 210gr RN in my SR1911. Shoots extremely well. I also shoot it in .38 spl. under 150 gr SWC. Dont remember off hand the charge ,but i use the dipper from the Lee die set . Scoop & strike off the top, and pour into case. Decent performance in this application as well. I read earlier someone say they bought ETR-7 when there was a good sale. I also got in when the price was good. 8 LBS. to my door was in the $120 range. That includes the shipping & hazmat. Titegroup data is as close as ya can get to exact load data, in most cases you will have to adjust. i spent most of a summer playing with it to find the loads i use now. Be safe & always consult a notable load data source, or two - CASTER

In regards to shooting safety.Until you are ready to fire, keep your booger hook off the bang switch.

Expansion went belly up and shafted folks on the way - but ETR-7 was my all time fave .45 powder. Anyone have another source ?

Look for Maxam CSB1, it was reported to be the same powder just under different name.
