    copper colored power coat

I remember someone selling a copper colored powder. Maybe smoke?

    And, will it tumble?

Will it cover with 2 coats, etc..

powder coating generally only does a single coat. I didn't see a copper on smokes list, but it could be a rotating item? powder by the pound has a few variations of copper color. My bronze 500 hitek mixed with a touch of gold comes out a nice copper color (accident).

Only cook first coat till shiny. Gives better adhesion for second coat. First coat just glazes, not cured till second coat
    Whatever!

I bought a pound of copper color powder from Smoke maybe 2 years ago. Turned out to be more like burnt orange, but it's great stuff for tumble coating. First try was a success and many batches since have all turned out well. Gonna hafta try some other colors one day.

"Fools Penny" from Prismatic Powders *supposedly* tumble coats well. I have never tried it.

I read it in some other thread.

In that same thread I read that "Gold Nugget" from PBTP also tumble coats well, I can tell you form experience that it does not.

When I get low on powder again I'll probably order some Fools Penny. I don't mind experimenting as I also have a spray gun, I just don't like to use it if I don't have to.

I prefure bacon grease that I got from Smoke. I get a laugh when I tell people. I only use one coat and I have no issues with rifle or pistol full house loads.

I tried Prismatic Fools Penny and it doesn't look bad if it is sprayed, but it didn't give me what I would call a true copper color. It did not tumble coat at all for me. I have yet to see a real copper color powder.

I really like Smoke's bacon grease color- I mix it with HF red to produce oatmeal color and mixed with JD green it makes a sort of mottled turquoise. I find that I get much better coverage when 2 colors are mixed. I've been trying to use up a pound of HF red and so far have 7 distinct colors. Smoke's stuff is good stuff!

For those that like to mix colors, if the polymers are not identical you will likely end up with a coating with undesirable properties as the cross linking of the chains that occurs when the polymer is cured will be compromised. When there are companies that have thousands of powder color choices available, mixing possibly different polymers is asking for trouble.

I seem to get better coverage when I mix colors as well. I wonder if there is something to that or it's all in my head.

I mixed Smoke's also. It breaks the monotony of the same color for the entire operation.
One time ended up with something akin to olive drab. Not the best look but they go down the barrel and hit the target and no leading.

Too bad I didn't see this comment earlier

I ordered some the week before last...exact same results. Doesn't tumble, and is not a convincing copper.

I got it to look better by spraying then spraying a second coat of clear over the baked on copper color.

I had tried some copper color off of ebay, but seemed to have too much clear and not enough copper color.
Then I found this web site: http://www.allpowderpaints.com/powde...ampa-copper-2/
I'm sure they will turn out better if sprayed, I done these tumbled with BB's. The color name is: Tampa-Copper #2

The problem I see so far is all the "Copper" colors just look like shades of brown paint. I think to get a coating that truly resembles bright copper is going to require a metallic base coat with a clear top coat. What we want may already be out there, but so far no one has found it, or if they have they are keeping it to themselves.

I ESPCd a good copper color which was a mix of Fools Penny, and a couple of others to get this below. In natural light, it looks like the real deal. I am working on a mix that will tumble coat but have not yet perfected the mix.

Prismatic Powders has a lot of colors to choose from. I've tried most of the copper colors they sell, but found mixing a solid peach color withe the fools Penney top coat gives it a slight metallic color with good cover. The mix I made in the picture looked flesh colored in powder form but baked into a nice FMJ. When I get 'the' mix, I will post. Frank
