    Question Lube Not Sticking

Pan lubbing some Lee REAL 58 cal bullets - 1/2 bees wax + 1/2 olive oil + a little lanolin - lube not sticking to groves

I never tried to pan lube the few .58 cal REAL boolits I cast, I just did a real quick smear while loading them. The grooves are wide and the lands small and sloped, so I never even tried to prelube them.

Off the top of my head, it seems like an awful high percentage of oil in your lube mix. How stiff is it when it sets up?

    it won't set up.
olive oil keeps on softening bees wax.
    add more wax.

Heat your bullets up before or during lubing, allow the bullets to cool
along with the lube and the lube will stick much better.
This will work providing your lube is not too extreme,

I agree..............far too much olive oil. I'm surprised the lube will even harden, much less stay in the grooves.

Hi Forrest-Hunter, I have had great luck dipping .58 cal minie balls in melted beeswax and olive oil (50-50 with a dash of lanoilin). Lightly grab the bullet nose with long nose pliers and dip base first in the melted lube (melt in a double boiler), the excess comes off at the muzzle when loading. Works Great !

    Lanolin is the sticky maker.
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!
