    Question Accurate Powder--MRP

I have a couple of jugs of Accurate Powders discontinued powder called MRP. I have been told that it was the predecessor of Accurate 3100. Does anyone know about this powder and what it works well for? Any info would be appreciated.

Generally on this board an inquiry in one section's plenty.

About 10 years ago (or more) one of the big distributors had MRP on clearance. My father bought four 8 pounds kegs just because it was cheap.

Check load data for 3100. It's useful for for magnum type rifle cartridges like 7mm Mag and the like. Repordedly it's good for .220 Swift as well, but it's kind of coarse for metering and I didn't want to mess with getting it through a .22 neck.

I've also used it in .45-70 with reduced loads for heavy cast bullets. (400 grain or 500 grain.) Basically just completely fill the powder capacity and slightly compress the charge with the bullet. The powder is too slow to ever reach max pressure. It does leave some unburned powder in the bore though.

I'd use published ACC 3100 starting data and work up carefully from there.

    Talking 3100/mrp

They are the same I used to use it for my 6-284 varmint rifle it is a slow burner I think it is the slowest in the accurate line of powders. I might be new to casting but reloading is the one thing I do know about. Good for medium to magnum rifle charges with jacketed bullets. Was able to acheive near 4000 FPS with a 70 gr. bullet not too bad, but got rid of the rifle because a .243 will almost do the same thing and with less powder kind of an overkill round.

    Thumbs up

    + 1 for 3100 in the Magnums.

After extensive loading trials, my California hunting buddy and I both ended up using it. He in his 700 Remington in 7 Mag with 175 grain, and me in my A Bolt 300 WM with 180 grain.

I've never tried it with "real" boolits, though.
