    DAWG,
Lyman 3rd & 4th show that boolit in 38 special with Red Dot,but nothing in 357.

I use 357 brass in some of my revolvers with wadcutters. If I can't find load data for the 357 brass I start with the load data for 38 special and work up.Most of my wadcutters are shot using Bullseye powder. For one S&W 686 revolver I use for Bullseye one hand shooting 3.2 grs in a 357 case using a NOE hollow base wadcutter work very well. That load has low recoil and will hold the X ring of a slow fire pistol target from a rest.I have never tried Reddot powder............Terry

Hi Luckydog,Modern Reloading by Richard Lee shows 148 Wadcutter .2.7 grains Red Dot 770fps 12400psi minimum overall length 1.330" Should do the trick,, Cheers Mike. P.S. This would be a "Target Load"as they do show data up to 4.6 grains but best to start low and work up slowly ......Good Luck ..

Speer #11 (1987) also shows their 148gr hollow base wadcutter using 3.0gr (750fps) to 3.4gr (812fps) of Red Dot and CCI500 primers test fired from a 6" Security Six.

I'm not sure if the Lee is a hollowbase or flatbase.

Speer's recommendation, if using a hollow based wadcutter:
"Heavier loads are not recommended with hollowbase bullets because of the possibility of bullet deformation which might result in gun damage."

In the 357mag, Lyman 46th Edition has their #358495 listed using IMR4227, Unique, Blue Dot, 2400 and HS7.
It appears identical to the Lee 358-148-WC

If you seat the wadcutter further out of the case than the standard crimp groove, you can use data for 150-158 grain boolits quite safely.
I crimp that boolit in the first lube groove below the crimp groove. This leaves the same space in the case as if you used a semi-wadcutter boolit.

Just use the 38 special data. If the wc makes oval holes at 50 yards. Increase by one tenth gr. until you get round holes.
