You don't mention what your end use will be for it ? For just killing paper targets at 50-100 yds lots of loads will work . Read up on the sticky at top of page about cast bullets for military rifles . The popular loads of 12-13 gr Red dot , 10 gr of unique and 16 gr of 2400 with almost any 150-200 gr gas checked bullet that fit your rifles throat well is always a good starting spot . For a quiet plinking load for the same ranges 5-6 gr of Bullseye or other similar fast powder work very well .

Thinking about using it for heavy cover hog hunting, close range, under 50 yards, thanks

30 grs. of Varget is most accurate in my .308 with the NOE copy of D. Eagan's MX-2.

Found a 2 cavity mold for 7.62x39,155 grain GC. Supposedly . 312 diameter might give it a try

That lee 155/160 while it can be a very accurate bullet is a spitzer shape probably not the best shape for a cast hunting bullet . For pigs a bullet with a nice wide flat nose would be a better option , look for a load that will push it 1800-2000 fps and hold hunting accuracy and you'll have bacon .

C309-170-F looks like a good choice.

I've got a 31-165A 4x (170 w/GC) I don't use anymore, shoots great and drops ~ 312-313 with my alloy, 0.18 meplat - I've run it @ 2700 from the AR10 (1:10). Shoots pretty flat to 100, ~1.5 drop @ 175 - 1 1/2 MOA is best I can do but I'm old. IIRC, R5R designed it. 16/2400, 25/LeverE or H4895, Upper end H335/4895/varget for full speed loads works fine. Changed to a slick sided for the AR10 PCd. Took the carbine upper on a pig hunt but alas, none appeared.
    Whatever!

    brino308,

My best 7.62mm cast load is 14 grains of Unique and the Lyman #311467 or Lyman #31141 made of #2 alloy and quenched with a drop from the mould to the bucket of water.

I'd talk to popper about his mold.
on top of 17.5-18.0 grs of 2400 or 29.5-30.0 grs of I-4895 your gonna have to look awful hard to find anything that'll even come close for either field or target work.

I run mine at 2400 fps for target stuff out to 300 yds.
and unless I get deer to back up to 200+ yds it's much too fast.
at 1900 or so [the loads I quoted above] will do anything I ask of it out to 150 yds.
my alloy is 3 parts clip on ww's with 1 part stick on ww's mixed together and water dropped.
