Start working on your arm strength! They are awesome and durable but heavy as heck.

For me, after my 1st brass mould, I never looked for any other medium. You may wish to go to the NOE web-site to read and FOLLOW Mr. Nelson's mould break-in directions to the letter: Wash mould well with soap/water using toothbrush; heat mould three times to casting temp and let cool to room temp before pouring alloy into it; and, for the first boolits you may wish to play the flame of a butane cigarette (Bic) lighter on the cavities to blacken them. Re the weight, I followed the advice of a friend I made on this site by cutting a stack of 1/4" plywood pieces which I stack under the brass mould -- using bottom pour furnace -- to just the right height. This not only insures the identical same distance from spout to mould top on every cast -- increasing uniformity of boolits -- but really makes the "heavy mould" issue a second- or third- order variable. E.g., it's still a lot of fun and satisfying to see the gorgeous boolits dropped; my 68 year old wimpy arms have yet to "complain"!
    BEST!

I must apologize, I did not check my mold as soon as I got it and was waiting for the 147gr HP mold so I could patina and break them both in at the same time. As it turns out I think I have some defects in my HG#68 I got. at the bottom of each cavity there seems to be bad machining marks. When the two halves are together I can see plenty of daylight in between except for where the machining burs are.
The burrs are on the same spot on both sides of the molds.
