Well, after many delays my wife and I FINALLY got up to the range today with the little Chiappa M1-9 carbine that I bought for her. Long story short, so far it's OK, but not stellar. First problem was that it was being fussy to feed and jammed about 3 rounds per magazine until it had about 200 rounds through it. Now it's being a bit more reliable after about a 200 round "break-in" today, but it still has the odd failure to feed, often on the last round in the magazine. The rear sight is a cheap piece of poorly made cr*p and doesn't hold zero. I had to move it up to the 3rd notch of 4 notches just to get the gun hitting centre at 25 yards and then after a few shots the recoil (which is very light in this pistol calibre carbine) would knock the rear sight back down a notch or two and it would start shooting low again. I think it will take a small scope or a red dot / holo sight to make this gun work a bit better. Accuracy was modest to say the least and the gun stays on an 8" bullseye target at 25 yards, but with large, round groups. (In all fairness though, most of what we were burning up was a mixture of bullets and boolits in varying weights and different loads just to break the gun in so more accuracy testing with some more consistent ammo is needed. We did shoot a few magazines of factory PMC and Rem / UMC bulk promo ammo with modest accuracy too.) As a general rule the first shot hand seated into the chamber out of the magazine shoots usually shoots quite low out of the group and then the rest of the magazine shoots a 6" or so group on the point of aim (if the rear sight doesn't shake loose and drop down on it's adjustment). On the plus side my wife loves shooting it so far and thoroughly enjoyed burning up magazine after magazine of 9mm ammo, so I think it is worth trying to sort the "bugs" out of it and see if we can get it shooting a bit more reliably and a bit more accurately. I'll keep you posted as things progress ...

    A very nice, un-mucked with 1908 Mannlicher/Schoenauer with a pristine bore. As with all 1908's chambered in 8 X 56 M/S cartridge. Such a delightful little rifle!!!

Reverend Al: I also own the Chiappa M1-9 carbine. I bought one because 9X19 brass if free for picking it up at my local range. Sharing notes here. Mine is on par with my 30 Carbine accuracy wise, not stellar but acceptable for the type of weapon we're talking about. Yes, the rear sight is junk and has been replaced on my gun with a reflex sight an that's a big help. The M1-9 , mine at least likes to run on the upper end of powder charges and will stovepipe with mild to medium charges. An example of a load that works well in mine would be 4gr of TiteGroup under 120-125gr bullets. I like to use the Lee 124gr RN powder coated and sized .358. It's nose has a step down design and doesn't have to be seated as deep as some other designs. It's a fun gun to shoot beverage cans and clays but just is not a tack driving target gun. I've had few problems with mine and have a lot of fun shooting it. Gp

OK, thanks for your insights ... Where did you find the adapter base to mount your optic rear sight? I'm not having much luck finding a base that will fit the factory dovetail on this carbine and adapt it to a Weaver / Picatinny style base? I have a spare Bushnell red dot sight that I'd like to try putting on this carbine to replace that terrible factory rear sight and see if that helps with accuracy. The next step is to load a bunch of consistent ammo to test fire in it too. I have a variety of 9mm suitable powders and can make up some small test batches and see if I can find the "magic load" for this gun. My wife really likes it since it's light weight and fun to shoot. I also had trouble getting the magazine to latch in solidly and most of the time with the magazine fully loaded with 10 rounds (we are limited to 10 rounds capacity in handgun magazines in Canada) it wouldn't latch into place unless I held the action open manually, seated the mag until it latched in, and then let the bolt drop to chamber the first round. With the bolt closed it usually wouldn't latch the magazine into place so that might need some "tweaking" too. Maybe I'm just expecting a little bit too much out of an inexpensive (cheap?) "plinker" gun ...

Went to the Washington co fairgrounds gun show today in PA.
Bought a Bonehill martini and 2lb of #12 shot for $5.
Who says you can't find deals at gun shows.

Still kicking myself in the rear for not buying a Ruger no. 1 action nib for the asking price of 475.00. Probably could have got it for 375-400.00.

I normally don't buy or build AR's, but I had to scratch an itch for a 308 since my boys are claiming all of my deer rifles. My post exchange had a sale, so I took home an AR-10 and a Mark AR Leupold scope and Leupold 1pc Mark 2 mount. Itching for next weeks leave to take it to the range. I'm curious to see if it'll chamber and shoot some cast, so I'll load a ladder or two. On the ol local interweb exchange he same day, I talked myself into a Judge. I've wanted one since they came out, so why not? It's my first revolver outside of Ruger and Smith, so I plan on enjoying the entertainment value of it. I doubt it'll replace my M69 or 686+ for usual carry around the farm, but it may get to pinch hit a time or two if it shows potential at the range. Should be a fun trip next week. Already loaded a bunch of 250gr RNFP that slugged at .4525.

Finally got one. Brother in law was needing some funds so I bought his rock island ultra 1911. Nice looking gun I didn't know he had. Taking it out tomorrow.

Springfield 9mm EMP 3" if it doesn't need to be a rifle. Busy lubing 9mm bullets today.
Last rifle was a Navy Arms Remington rolling block 45/70.

Bought the Pedersoli Sharps infantry rifle in 45/70 that member John Allen had for sale. Forgot about the heavy spring for the lever and at first thought the lock for the lever was engaged. Nope just arthuritic hands and lack of memory. Now to slug the barrel and see what I'm dealing with. Thanks John. Frank

I'm still kicking myself for selling the 6" 22LR I had. Looked to be in about the same condition and shot pretty good. Fun gun.
