    Cabela's Pedersoli Traditional Hawken Flintlock

Anyone seen/have one of these? I've got a 'today only' coupon and some Cabela's bucks burning a hole in my pocket.

They look visually similar to the older Investarms made rifle, but the local Cabela's only carries modern in line stuff so I can't check one out.

Between my son and I we've killed near 20 deer with my 24" barreled fifty cal Investarm (Lyman). It's a solid 100 yard shooter with patched round ball over 110 grains 2F Goex. So no; don't get the short barrel, unless you want to have a lighter, handier rifle for brush, close woods and steep terrain.

Pedersoli is good stuff, and unless you get a nice custom-built I doubt you can really do better. I've been eyeing their Missouri River and Rocky Mountain Hawken rifles with some longing. In practice though, the shorter Lyman does just fine, and I'm less concerned about the rough handling it sometimes gets in the field, climbing trees and crossing rivers and such, and using it as a walking stick on steep slopes. The deer won't understand the difference between a 32 or 34 inch barrel and the 28" (is it?) barrel on the one you're looking at, especially once they're dead.

Well, took a chance and ordered the Flintlock, description says the barrel is a bit over 28".

I'll post some pics when it arrives.

Thanks for the help - Jim

I bought a T/c White Mountain Carbine years ago (nib) in hopes to lighten my rifles tote weight. {so to speak a Canoe like rifle in a cap lock version.} I seldom shoot anything other than patched ball. So~ the W/M idea.~~ Turned out to be the most inaccurate Iron sighted rifle I own. "Barrel length does matter."
