Going to look at a Remington 40x r 3 position this weekend

Found one for sale buried in an ad with a bunch of other guns with an unertl 10x scope, owner sent pics and gun and scope looks like new, says he still has boxes for scope and gun, couple real small safe dents on the wooden stock.
I know they are nice shooters but don't know anything about them.
Anyone have any experience with one of these rifles?

The 40X rimfire rifles have had an excellent reputation for accuracy and dependability. A very good rifle capable of competeing with the best of them. 3 position rifle is a ball to shoot and will tune you up alot also. Plan on going thru alot of ammo with this rifle especially if competing is in your plans.

Sorry 22lr, plan on using it for rimfire silhouette until my grandkids get more interested in getting serious about shooting then if that happens will pass it on to them.

I got some of the bolts for this rifle about 20 years ago.

The bolts came from rifles scraped by the military.

Made the receivers on my lathe and milling machine, made a total of 7 receivers.

Shot the rifles in BR-50 matches for a few years until BR-50 went by the way.

Still have two of the finished rifles.

Spent a lot of time lapping the barrels so as to have a taper tight at the muzzle, the taper helps in making the rifles shoot a very tight group.

A carbon steel barrel lapped seemed to shoot the best.

BR-50 was a fun thing to shoot a few years back.

Is it gonna make weight? Scope is gonna weigh 14-18 ounces. If I remember correctly, weight was 10lbs 2oz for the standard rifle.

Got it, now for the wait

Went and looked at the 40xr today and bought it. The owner bought it new said he put one box of ammo through it and it has been sitting in his safe ever since.
besides a few small stock dents the gun is like brand new and so is the unertl scope.
wish we didn't have 10 day waits in California.

I shot an old 40X on the ROTC team years ago.
I wish I still had the rifle I used on the team.
I always admired the Win 52D , that was what I wanted to shoot.

My old 40X would do the job.

I wish I knew where my old rifle is today.
Probably in some gun safe not being used.
I shot thousands of rounds through it.

Alot of the kimbers, Mossbergs, 52s and 40xs from the rotcs and military teams were sold a few years ago thru the cmp/dcm I got a Kimber and 52 win. Missed out on the 40Xs.The Kimbers were basically new unfired rifles. The 52s and 40xs were sold with out rear sights. They are good rifles.

CMP sold the sights after they sold the rifles. There not as many sights as rifles. I got a Redfield Olympic front and a Redfield International rear for my 40X RF. Sights were about half what the rifle cost but well worth it. Rifle=$275 Sights=$130

I have a 40x .22 bench rest gun with a Nightforce 12-42x56 Benchrest scope on it. It shoots in the 2's all day and with an experienced shooter on the trigger I am sure it will shoot 1 ragged hole. Groups at 100 yards are ½ inch.
