been raining hard on my 300 leeks, what a God sent. they are smiling.

When I was in NYS loved when it warmed up enough to find wild leeks and stuffed myself with them. On most construction projects we found some and ate all we could before they were gone. Not sure I would like the garden grown leeks, might need to try it.

Waiting on my rhubarb plants so I can plant them and hope they grow.

Starting to get close to Good Friday , need to get off my lazy B-hind and start getting my planting spots ready. I hate bed prep , but the good gardening elves aren't going to do it.
My Daddy always said to wait until Good Friday or whenever the pecan trees start to bloom out, he said a lot of trees will be fooled by a warm snap , but pecan trees wouldn't be fooled by it.

If I waited till Good Friday like my father said he was always told, I would be getting my tomatoes a month later than my normal time. I put my first planting in mid Feb. and I have tennis ball size tomatoes on the bushes already. Most of the peppers and eggplant are planted. The squash, cucumber, okra, more tomatoes and peppers and the watermelon are up in the flats in the greenhouse waiting for it to dry out enough to work the soil.
As the old market gardener said: If you don't loose some of your first and last plantings to frost, you are not planting early enough and not late enough. I try to do both.

Seeds are started, tomatoes, 2 kinds peppers, brussels sprouts, cabbage so far, might add a third tray. Rack is a cheap wire shelf from Walmart, covered with heavy vinyl to keep the cats out. Sits in my south facing bay window that gets tons of sun.

mary b, i recognise your shelves, i just bought two of those selves from wall mart at a nice price and they went together very easy and are very strong. i would recommend them to anybody.

You are totally correct, but I'm not a real gardener/farmer like you . 3 tomato plants , 2 eggplant , 6 okra plants and a mirliton vine only get you a piddlers rating at best and my badge is 4th class at that. I'm a poor excuse for a gardener ....I just like home grown tomatoes and the Mirliton , okra and eggplant about grow themselves.
My daddy told me my great grandfather and great great grandfather were real farmers , but my grandfather left the farm , came to B.R. and went to work for the new Standard Oil Refinery, he said digging in the dirt fighting the weather wasn't his idea of making a living.
But my Dad always planted a few mater's in the back yard and I guess I rubbed off on me.

Iv'e got red potato's , Better boy and early girl and celebrity tomato. 6 kinds of garlic , walla walla onions and capri onion, Beets ,carrots, squash and tomorrow I am planting cucumbers and yellow squash

Frosted hard this morning and has been raining for days so I still only have mud planted.

planted another cattle water tank filled with compost, with bunching onion seeds. next week its yellow potatoes. also planted garlic. planted a bunch of cherry tree seeds that were frozen all winter to prepare them to plant. if they should come up, will transplant to pots for a couple of years. fruit trees from seed do a lot better here than the grafted ones.

This morning woke up to a garden covered in snow and I still have a lot of started plants to plant when the ground warms up so it is dirt again and not snow

Still have 12-14 inches of snow and ice on the garden here in the White Mountains' of NH temp is 50 and the sun is out for a change.

New chicks in cellar as of noontime!!

Nice weather last Saturday, got my two raised beds ready for planting , come Good Friday , I'll be off and after a trip to the nursery , the tomato plants will go into the ground. Home grown tomato's are the best !

Rained 23 time out of the last 32 days and it's raining even now.
It might be a month before I can plant anything.

I only have 3 tomato plants but they all have blooms. Peppers are coming along, carrots are coming up and hopefully the corn will pop up soon. By the time most of you guys are getting produce mines done. Too hot and too wet. I still lose a lot, very different from Kentucky where I grew up but I'm trying.

Would love to have some horseradish starts if anyone has some to spare. Can't find it here anywhere.

Really went wild this year and planted 5 different type tomato seeds & Have the rare Urfa Bieber and Aleppo Chiles growing!
My cold frame can only hold so much so if I get a temp drop they all have to come back into the house...which will be a nightmare now With the grow lights in the basement shut down and A 28 lb Orange tiger cat that loves green upstairs!!!!!!

I have six potatoes in a bucket in a bucket in the basement that really wan to be planted in the garden. If I have time I plan on tilling the winter rye under this week. That means I can plant the potatoes next week. Everything else can wait until Memorial Day. To much risk of losing them if I plant earlier.

I like to plant early Season Veggies; here in NEPa; Like arugula, Leaf Lettuce, Broccoli ,Turnips and Spinach....Don't need to worry about frost just sub freezing temps!
Always like to take the chance...... Most times it Pays off with good fresh greens by Early May in the Northeast: Broccoli & Turnips by June 1st
