Good Day at the range with one of my Guide Guns

I made it to the range again Tuesday with my favorite Guide Gun, a first year (1998) ported 1895G in 45/70. I've scoped all my Guide Guns with 1.5 X 4 scopes for these older eyes. I shot from sitting at the bench off hand, no rest at 50 yards. I went through 20 reloads (H4198 & Remington 300gr HP). I had been considering removing the glass and going back to iron sights however I think I'll leave well enough alone.

I shot these twenty rounds of 45/70 after shooting most of my 458 Win Mag (H4198 & 500gr Interlocks). I was surprised that I could hold on target with a bit of a sore shoulder.

Here are some of my Marlin Guide Guns & Outfitters.

With that many Guide Guns I believe I'd at least try one with Iron Sights just to see if I could shoot it?

Just bet you could if you tried.

Hey Randy, I started off with skinner sights and did well for a few years however diabetes has started to affect my vision so I went over to glass. I am thinking about trying to go back to skinner on one of them to try it out again....

Good shooting, those Guide Guns are as good on paper as they are on game. Mine wears a low powered variable as well, good fit for these rifles. Nice collection!

Great report. My first lever was my Marlin 45/70. Had the biggest grin ever after firing it. Hooked on Marlin levers ever since.

Thanks, that was a rare day with all twenty rounds that close together, hence the pic. I don't usually bother to take a picture! I really enjoy my Guide Guns.

That's good shooting, 1895. Good loads in good rifles with a sharpshooter behind the butt, and good things tend to happen. Good on ya'!

They are all Bushnell Banner scopes. I had one let loose on me on a 450 hot load but that was thousands of rounds ago. None since then and they replaced it free.

Headed back to the range today with the same Guide Gun. We'll see if I can repeat successfully. No 458 win mag before shooting the 45/70 today. I'll be shooting the same load as last time using H4198 & Remington 300gr JHP.

Nice shooting. I too have a weak spot for the Guide Gun and variants. I'm going to fix my 1895GS soon with some awesome figured wood stocks.
    Keep moving forward!
