Smelted some range scrap a few weeks ago

Late last summer I reclaimed about 80 or so pounds of lead from my local gun range. Finally got to smelting it. Got a good bit of ingots. We're some FMJ words mixed in so lost some lead there, didn't want to mess around with em. So here is my set up. Took about 3 Jeh hours, fluxes with pine saw dust and took my time skimming the crud off the top. Nice clean lead.

Looks good, nothing like free lead, even if it takes you time and gas to melt it and clean it.

Looks like a great setup. When I smelt range lead, anything that doesn't melt right away, like FMJ's, I hit with a hammer and chisel to open up.

If you saved the jackets you may be able to take them to a scrap yard and reclaim the cost of your propane. Just take a good strong magnet and get the steel jackets out first.

I cut the FMJ cases with a large set of wire cutters. You just have to break through the jacket in one spot. Lead melts, jackets float.
