    .43 spanish.

Colorado hunting regs require 1000 ft lbs energy at 100 yards. Question, does the .43 Spanish have 1000 ft. lbs. energy at 100 yards using the factory load of 78 grs. black powder & the 375 gr boolit.

It drops below 1000 fpe at about 150 yards, so you'll be fine. At 100 yds it's around 1200 fpe.

Thanks Nobade. The carbine is a real attention getter at the range.

Advertised in the factory reloads, [FONT=Arial]using a 365 grain bullet, one typical factory load had an advertised MV of 1460 fps and ME of 1730 ft. lbs. Depending on the bullet weight & grade of BP, fps ran from 1250 to 1500
    With a 390 bullet - 75gr FFFg - the muzzle fps is 1340

i don,t think you will meet a CO in the field with a chronograph. i would shoot it and have fun doing it the old fashion way. i have shot many a deer with mine with a 385 gr, .439 soft cast tumbled lubed slug be hind 27 grains of 4198 with rice crispies or drier lint filler with no problem.

One time about 30 years ago I was grilled pretty hard by game warden about using the 45/70 loaded heavy in a bolt action rifle. Her take on it was it was the 45/70 was underpowered by factory & handloads were very dangerous. It didn't seen to keep me from dropping a very large cow elk with one shot.

    Bob Busetti,
Sadly, a very common phenomenon. Some woefully ignorant & misled LEO's are given the mantle of expertise the minute they put on a uniform. That can lead to some unfortunate outcomes. After decades of LE work, I can tell you that the sidearms some wear have no more importance to them than the ham sandwich they brought to work that day. There are some gun guys left out there, but many others are far from it.

always remember ... the 43 spanish and 44-77 were brother/sister developments. these have taken every animal on the north american continent.

nobody ever doubted the effect of the 44-77 on the great buff herds. along with great energy levels ... the trajectory is a little bit flatter then the 45-70.
