    7.62x39 load question....

after reading through the post quoting Ed Harris' articles on casting and loading for 7.62x39, I still have a question....

do I need to gas check these loads ???

you can try them without the g/c's
generally boolits that need g/c's work better with them but i have seen reports of
    good luck without them.
those loads were generally 1400 or below though.

I shoot Lee's 160gr TL 312 in my 03A3 without gas checks. I do however use 2.6ccs of Creamy Wheat (not Cream OF Wheat mind you, the generic equivalent). Besides a sandblasted appearance on the butt of the bullet due to the CoW impacting I have no adverse reactions, leading included. Tumble lubed in Mother's Cleaner Carnauba Gold and I literally don't even need to clean my gun, it seems to be much happier that way. I do have to worry about Creamy Wheat getting into that Kalashnikova contraption, so do use my advice at your own risk.
