    310 threads?

What are the threads on the 310 dies and/or tru-line dies? I have a die that needs cleaned up a bit with a couple mildly damaged threads. Thanks.

Forget it! They are a nut-ball thread size that the founder of the Ideal Mfg. Co., John Barlow carried over when he quit Winchester's loading tool shop and founded his own company in 1884. We commonly refer to it as 5/8" x 30 tpi, but it actually runs a bit under at 0.605" - 0.608"; call it 39/64" x 30 tpi.; and you won't find it anywhere. Randy Davis, at "The 310 Shop" is having reproductions made of some of the scarcer 310/T-L Jr. dies, and I have asked if his machinist could make us thread chasers of the proper size, as I have some damaged and dinged ones, too; but none have turned up yet. (Randy; you listening??). You will also find an 11/16" x 30 tpi, a .440" x 30 tpi and a 1/4" x 30 tpi thread on some other Ideal parts; remember, this was long before the SAE set their standards for our common thread sizes.

FG, I did not consider that ! My old Atlas does though -- I was considering downsizing the lathe but I will take another look at threading gears available!

Get a thread file. You should be able to straighten them out if you are careful.
