I bet he and Roy Nichols are pickin up a storm, Roy was married to my Mother's youngest sister from 1961-1971. If We Can Make it Through December was written after that comment by Roy to Merle as his marriage to her was unraveling because of the touring, she had 2 small children at home.

RIP to a Great Entertainer & Songwriter.

I hear the plan is to sing that at his funeral. Looks like Willie is the last of the outlaw country types now. I really like country music, but has gotten SO bad in the past few years. I work around teenagers every day so am unfortunately exposed to a lot of pop music I'd rather not listen to, but truthfully, the stuff that's passing for country lately is just as bad and maybe worse.

Losing Merle was a real blow, wish I had gotten to see him perform at least once. I did get to see Johnny CAsh and June once. Never got to see Waylon either.

I agree. I love the old country, but totally hate pop country.

My sons listen to the new country and get angry when I call it "Tractor Rap." Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash and George Straight are my favorite 3 C/W singers

    That's hilarious. Because it's accurate.

Pancho and Leftie and Always Wanting You were my two favorites by the Hag.

“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.” -Samuel Adams

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for dinner. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.

I have it from a pretty reliable source that " Always Wanting You " was written by Merle about Dolly .....

Also, " Pancho & Lefty " was written by Townes VanZant.
