When casting, how often do you lube the bullet mold? I've been doing it on and off with no pattern...Just curious
Thanks
Joe

Just once per session.

I am Retired, I was tired yesterday and I am tired today!!!
Once at the start of a session and at least once during it. That's using P-100 AC oil.
Depends on the spru , some times it will want to stick to the top of the plate , or I cut to quickly and smear the bottom of the plate or top of blocks . I have one particular 200 gr 4 cavity that seams to be a little more needy .
I ussually cast a 4 hour session with several ( up to 4) moulds ran in pairs. I clean and lube the moulds the night before the session. This gives the lube some time to seep and work into where it needs to be. I cast with 2 moulds at a time rotating one out as the quanity I want is reached and replace with the next. I normally dont relube again during the session due to this. I do put a light coat of lube on them when done and still hot for rust protection till the next session.
I have been using the Liquid wrench dry lube and it seems to last for months.
Normally if I get a cavity starting to stick I will cool it down a bit (wet towel or quick dunk in water drop container)
If that does not do it then it gets set aside to cool and gets cleaned, lubed, allowed to dry and put back to work. I just put 3-4 drops on a q-tip and work cavity's first, then mold faces, top of block, sprue plate, etc.
I have only had to retreat a 2 cavity lee mold twice, my 6 cavity molds are still just raining boolits like crazy with zero maintenance.
I'm pretty random too, if it looks like it needs more i put more on.
if it's going along fine I just keep going.
I'm not lubing the cavities, just the plate and the top of the mold as well as the alignment pins
It depends on the mold I am using. It will let me know when it needs some lube.

When it needs it. I use 2 cycle blue iol from WalMart in a syringe.
I use Permatex High Temperature AntiSieze once and never worry about it again.

I use 500 lube from donnie (bayoubullets.net) / aerosol can & thats all on any brand new mold once or twice each session.
This is my answer also, the mold will tell you.
To some 100 Boolitz is a large run of a mold at one time, to others it is twice that.
For myself, when the mold is hot and up to temp, I will usually pour all the usable alloy threw the mold that is in the pot.
The mold will tell you, and no 2 molds are the same. And this in no way takes into consideration the judgement/standards of the hands holding/running the mold.
I usually always lube the mold just before I stop running alloy threw it in a session so when I heat it up next time it is ready to run.

using Bullplate, I lube about once every 50 to 100 dumps.
of course it is Mold dependant...it seems Lee six cav molds require more attention, well seasoned Iron molds require less attention.

Pretty vague, once per session. A session for me might be 2000 bullets, sometimes more. I use mostly aluminum moulds, usually LEE, but also NOE, Accurate, HM2. In general, I lube about every 100-200 bullets, but as said above, it depends o the mould. If everything is falling out fine and nothing feels like it is sticking I won't lube anything. If things get a bit sticky, or I am getting finning, I will lube what needs it. I use Bullplate lube myself. It is kinda like cooking, how much oil you put in the frying pan depends on what you are cooking and how hot. Experience helps.
I haven't lubed a mould in the last 30 years.
