The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

To say that it is a vast improvement is gross understatement!!! Nicely done.

Did you shorten the barrel and if so, how much? Also, what kind of sights are those?

Waksupi sent me the old Juzeil-style stock that the rifle started in and I'm in the process of cleaning it up for my own 50-70 Trapdoor project. I know my work won't ever measure up to the end result of Waksupi's rifle but I'm getting my 1868 Trapdoor up and running now courtesy of Waksupi's cast offs

She won't be pretty but she'll be ready for deer season this fall because Waksupi let me buy that old stock.

I cut the barrel back to 26 1/2". I made a new front sight to replicate the original. Rear sight is standard military.

I'm sure glad you are happy with that monstrosity Bruce, I will be interested to see the end result!

I just started a thread in the single-shot rifle subforum describing the start of the rebirth. She's got some more growing ahead of her but she's back in one pieceClick image for larger version.

Next step will be to find an affordable aperture rear sight to get her dialed in.

You said "steamed instead of boiled" on the rust blue care to elaborate?
Also do you have anything on the basics of pouring a pewter cap?

Waksupi, I love your work. You really know how to make a rifle better, not just "different." Great work, sir!

I think your work stands in good company Waksupi! Comparing your work to this article by Elmer Keith of an Al Linden remodel of a Trapdoor Stock, shows you do it right!

Good article! Of course Uncle Elmer was putting together some loads that made my shoulder hurt just reading them!

Did Elmer ever advocate light loads?

Interesting article. The Linden rifle is beautiful. Too bad he carved up an Officers Model to make it, even then, they were not as common as the rifle or carbine.
