    Talking Book on 45-70

I just saw it advertised not to long ago as an updated version, if I find it I will let you know. My book says it was published by Wolf's Western Traders PO Box 85 111 Main, Hill City, SD 57745

My .458 bore diameter muzzleloader has a 24" twist for medium weight 45-70 molds without sizing. No yaw so far up to 430 grains. But, I don't want heavier than 400 grains and I'm not shooting this TC New Englander hundreds of yards!

i have a 1/22 twist simply because i had no idea 25 years ago about twists for 45/70. ive never changed the barrel because its shoots 475 grain bullets extreenly accurate at any distance. longer no. i shot a 545 grain bullet for awhile at 200 yards off of a bench and got a 3/4 inch group one day it had 60 grains of 2f black behind it with a milk carton wad between it and powder. past 250 yards that bullet would go sideways but to 200 yards it drove tacks. match the bullet to the twist and you will have a winner.

i have mase alot of barrels in 1-18. that twist works well for bullets up to 500 gr.

the carbine load was 55 gr of 1f with a 405 gr bullet.

Got a pyrodexed lefthand New Englander barrel to either rebarrel to .458 bore (and 30" barrel) or rebore to use fifty rifle molds.
Reviewing this thread was a welcome refresher.
