Without God, there is no virtue, because there's no prompting of the conscience. Without God, we're mired in the material, that flat world that tells us only what the senses perceive. Without God, there is a coarsening of the society. And without God, democracy will not and cannot long endure. If we ever forget that we're one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under.- Ronald Reagan 23 Aug 1984
Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.

Day of National Humiliation, Fasting, and Prayer
It is the duty of nations as well as of men to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon, and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord.
We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven; we have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity; we have grown in numbers, wealth, and power as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God.
We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us, and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own.
Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us. It behooves us, then, to humble ourselves before the offended Power, to confess our national sin, and to pray for clemency and forgiveness.
    - Abraham Lincoln, March 30, 1863

Will you join me in praying for this nation, which is being torn apart by hateful speech and violent acts? Will you pray for lasting peace – a peace that surpasses understanding? We need prayer today – just as much as Lincoln needed it over 150 years ago. Our God who healed the divide then, will surely do so now. His power, mercy, and love has not changed.
Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.

No greater thing could come to our land today than a revival of the spirit of religion—a revival that would sweep through the homes of the Nation and stir the hearts of men and women of all faiths to a reassertion of their belief in God and their dedication to His will for themselves and for their world. I doubt if there is any problem—social, political or economic—that would not melt away before the fire of such a spiritual awakening. - Franklin D. Roosevelt, Radio Address on Brotherhood Day; February 23, 1936.

We call what we have been doing ‘human security’ and ‘social justice.’ In the last analysis all of those terms can be described by one word; and that is ‘Christianity.'” - Franklin D. Roosevelt, Remarks to Visiting Protestant Ministers; January 31, 1938

Just because people disagree over public policy doesn’t mean that either side has a more or less sincere faith. Indeed, many Christians probably hold reasonably similar views to FDR when it comes to religion in America, even if they disagree with his New Deal.

This should encourage us to continue dialoguing and seeking common ground with our political opponents. If politically conservative Christians can find commonalities with FDR, they can probably find ways to build bridges with a surprisingly broad range of their contemporaries.

Continue praying for our nation. Prayers that spiritual revival and a return to our Christian moral center will bring Glory to His name. In Jesus Name. Amen.
Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.

Lord, our nation, the USA, has become sick. It's sick with a lack of faith or even concern for our religious faith - the faith upon which we were founded so long ago now. You have blessed us tremendously, and now, the wonders of our science have created a world in which many are spared the difficulties of a self-reliant life. And instead of being grateful, and singing your praises for these inestimable blessings, we have grown haughty, and self-obsessed, and we have in so many cases, turned our backs on you. But Lord, you still have the faithful. Many make their commitment to you, and then proceed to forget what that means, really. They get "swallowed up" in the nihlistic cynicism that seems to be the unofficial ethic of our modern world today. I pray Lord, that you would give us an evangelist who can and will cause people to think back, and realize what all has been lost, and what they've turned their backs on for so long now. We need a national revival, and a return to the ideologies that you so gracefully blessed us with, courtesy of our founders. You are the great God of Heaven, and I humbly ask you to hear our prayer here. If we do that, and achieve a revival in the nation, all else will naturally follow. Do it not, and no amount of effort on our part will end well. And if enough people return to our faith, they will find happiness unlike anything that their former callousness could ever have provided them.

Thank you for hearing our prayer, and all praise be to you for your wondrous care and guidance. Amen.

On the 150th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, President Calvin Coolidge said that equality, liberty, popular sovereignty and the rights of man “belong to the unseen world. Unless the faith of the American people in these religious convictions is to endure, the principles of our Declaration will perish.”

Our nation has been given a remarkable chance, through all its government branches, to set what is right, and to fix what is wrong. The prayer of our nation’s first bishop, John Carroll, in 1791 is offered again:

“We pray Thee O God of might, wisdom, and justice! Through whom authority is rightly administered, laws are enacted, and judgment decreed, assist with Thy Holy Spirit of counsel and fortitude the President of these United States, that his administration may be conducted in righteousness, and be eminently useful to Thy people over whom he presides; by encouraging due respect for virtue and religion; by a faithful execution of the laws in justice and mercy; and by restraining vice and immorality.”
Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.

Most Christians today no longer know, recognize, or even agree with what our political leaders (much less our ministers) used to openly declare about the Bible and its influence. So, while we pray for our leaders, I would suggest we especially pray for Christian citizens — that they would again begin to read, study, know, and understand the Bible. America can be no stronger than its citizens, and whether the citizens will be strong (and virtuous) depends on whether they know the Bible (cf. Matthew 22:29).

“The experiment is made and has completely succeeded – it can no longer be called in question whether authority in magistrates [civil leaders] and obedience of citizens can be grounded on reason, morality, and the Christian religion. The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were. . . . the general principles of Christianity.”- President John Adams

“[The Bible] is the rock on which our Republic rests.”- President Andrew Jackson

“It was for the love of the truths of this great Book [the Bible] that our fathers abandoned their native shores for the wilderness. . . . The same truths sustained them in their resolutions to become a free nation; and guided by the wisdom of this Book, they founded a government under which we have grown from three millions, . . . and from being but a stock on the borders of this continent we have spread from the Atlantic to the Pacific. The Bible. . . . is indispensable to the safety and permanence of our institutions.”- President Zachary Taylor

“[The Bible] is the best gift God has given to men. All the good the Savior gave to the world was communicated through this book. But for it, we could not know right from wrong.”- President Abraham Lincoln

“No candid observer will deny that whatever of good there may be in our American civilization is the product of Christianity. Still less can he deny that the grand motives which are working for the elevation and purification of our society are strictly Christian. . . . A belief in Jesus Christ is the very fountainhead of everything that is desirable and praiseworthy in our civilization, and this civilization is the flower of time. [T]he teachings of the Bible are so interwoven and entwined with our whole civic and social life that it would be literally – I do not mean figuratively, I mean literally – impossible for us to figure to ourselves what that life would be if these teachings were removed.”- President Teddy Roosevelt

“America was born to exemplify that devotion to the elements of righteousness which are derived from the revelations of Holy Scripture.”- President Woodrow Wilson

“American life is builded, and can alone survive, upon . . . [the] fundamental philosophy announced by the Savior nineteen centuries ago.”- President Herbert Hoover

“In the formative days of the Republic, the directing influence the Bible exercised upon the fathers of the Nation is conspicuously evident. . . .We cannot read the history of our rise and development as a Nation without reckoning with the place the Bible has occupied in shaping the advances of the Republic. I suggest a nationwide reading of the Holy Scriptures during the period from Thanksgiving Day to Christmas. . . . [G]o to . . . the Scriptures for a renewed and strengthening contact with those eternal truths and majestic principles which have inspired such measure of true greatness as this nation has achieved.”- President Franklin D. Roosevelt

“In this great country of ours has been demonstrated the fundamental unity of Christianity and democracy.” The fundamental basis of this Nation’s law was given to Moses on the Mount. The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings which we get from Exodus and St. Matthew, from Isaiah and St. Paul. I don’t think we emphasize that enough these days.”- President Harry Truman

“[R]eligious faith is the foundation of free government. [T]his relationship between a spiritual faith – a religious faith – and our form of government is so clearly defined and so obvious that we should really not need to identify a man as unusual because he recognizes it.”- President Dwight D. Eisenhower

“Of the many influences that have shaped the United States of America into a distinctive Nation and people, none may be said to be more fundamental and enduring than the Bible. Deep religious beliefs stemming from the Old and New Testaments of the Bible inspired many of the early settlers of our country . . . [and] laid the foundation for the spirit of nationhood that was to develop in later decades. The Bible and its teachings helped form the basis for the Founding Fathers’ abiding belief in the inalienable rights of the individual – rights which they found implicit in the Bible’s teachings of the inherent worth and dignity of each individual. This same sense of man patterned . . . the ideals set forth in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.”- President Ronald Reagan
Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.

I got this today from Pastor Greg Laurie. Perfectly expresses my thoughts for today.

    The Very Real Spiritual World

“And Elisha prayed, and said, 'LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.' Then the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.”
    —2 Kings 6:17

There is a supernatural battle going on right now for the soul of our nation. This is larger than a political battle and larger than an ideological battle. This is larger than anything we’ve ever faced before. It’s really a battle for the soul of our country.
I think sometimes as Christians that we forget we’re in a spiritual war. We’re not wrestling against flesh and blood but against principalities and spiritual powers in high places.
It’s a real world, the invisible world of God and Satan. It’s the world of angels and demons. And it’s just as real as the world we’re in right now.
The Bible tells a story of Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the prophet, who woke up to discover they were surrounded by enemy forces. In a panic, he turned to Elisha and said, “What should we do?”
Elisha told him, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them” (2 Kings 6:16 NKJV). Then Elisha prayed that God would open the servant’s eyes, and Gehazi saw the supernatural forces of God all around them.
Just as Elisha prayed for Gehazi, we need to pray that God would open our eyes to see the very real spiritual world all around us. This is not a game. This is the real thing.
And every day in this spiritual battle we’re either advancing or retreating. We’re either gaining ground or losing ground, not only as the church but also as individuals.
May God help us to think about how this works in our lives. May He open our eyes to see the work of His spirit in our lives and the work that He wants to do.
America still needs a spiritual awakening, and it starts with you and me.
Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.

II Chronicles 7:14 – if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

May we be faithful, informed and thoughtful when praying and talking to others about our politics, and as we ask for God’s wisdom and righteousness to be evident in our nation’s policies and leaders. In Jesus name, amen.
Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.

Please join me and pray for a desperately needed nationwide revival.

    From Franklin Graham today:
Attorney General William Barr had some strong words for “militant secularists” and their attacks on Judeo-Christian values. Barr spoke at Notre Dame on Friday and said, “This is not decay. This is organized destruction. Secularists and their allies have marshaled all the forces of mass communication, popular culture, the entertainment industry, and academia, in an unremitting assault on religion and traditional values." This is the truth—it is an assault. Barr also said, “We are told we are living in a post-Christian era, but what has replaced the Judeo-Christian moral system? What is it that can fill the spiritual void in the hearts of the individual person?” I appreciate Attorney General Barr’s boldness.

There is only one thing that can fill the void that is in every human heart—a relationship with God through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ.

Our Father and Our God, we praise You for Your goodness to our nation, giving us blessings far beyond what we deserve. Yet we know all is not right with America. We deeply need a moral and spiritual renewal to help us meet the many problems we face. Convict us of sin. Help us to turn to You in repentance and faith. Set our feet on the path of Your righteousness and peace. We pray today for our nation's leaders. Give them the wisdom to know what is right, and the courage to do it. You have said, "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord(Psalm 33:12)." May this be a new era for America, as we humble ourselves and acknowledge You alone as our Savior and Lord. This we pray in Your holy name, Amen.

    --- Billy Graham

Righteousness exalts a nation, Lord. Not flagrant personalities and foul speech. Not the boastful pride of man or “progressive” lifestyles or quick talking politicians who present themselves as the solution for the world. Righteousness, Lord, righteousness is what we need. Oh Lord, let Your righteousness rain down on us and spring up from within every home and community in our land. In Jesus Name. Amen

    Proverbs 14:34
Godliness makes a nation great, but sin is a disgrace to any people.
Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.

It's good to hear from you brother. We're doing the best we can here.

Lord, we come to You with this prayer for our land. You promise that when your people pray, humble themselves, and seek You, You will hear and answer. You even promise healing in the land. Lord, our land needs healing and I believe it starts with us. We humble ourselves before You right here, right now. We are seeking Your face. We ask You to grant us a repentant spirit so we may be an instrument that ushers in Your blessing for this nation. In Jesus Name. Amen.

PB, your posts are SO great! Thanks!

Lord, Pine Barron is right. We are at a crossroads in this country. Our people are divided nearly in half, with what has been the slightly smaller half being disposed toward license, rather than liberty. The second half understand the concept of consequences, and do not "think" in a frivolous or willful manner, and try hard to make good decisions, especially about the direction of our nation and how we govern ourselves. The first half is essentially ungovernable. They want what they want and no amount of discussion will divest them of their fantasies and wants. I pray, Lord, that you will sway enough voters to ensure a 2nd term for what has turned out to be an effective and wise President. He is young, as a follower of yours, and his manner is not that of a mature Christian, but he KNOWS you, and seems to be trying hard to heed you. Thank you for giving him to us, and I earnestly and respectfully request that your support will sway the fate of this nation, and that you give us a great spiritual leader who can and will touch the hearts and minds of men and women in this nation. You gave us this nation, but we had to work for it. Show us what to do. Let us do all we can, and not fail you as we have so often. Had we been more diligent, we'd have brought more converts to you. If we knew how to be more effective, we'd have brought MANY more to your altar. Please, Lord, if it's not too late already, give us one more chance I pray, to make this nation you founded work again, and its people to be humbled enough to see you, and know you. Thank you for hearing our prayers, and I pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, and my Master, My Savior and my best friend ever. Amen.

I've been OCONUS for a while, but I'm back.

    Psalms 33:12
Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.

Lord, Your blessing has been upon this nation and I thank You for your kind mercies! But Your Word says the blessed nation is the one whose God is the Lord and our nation has turned from You. God, on behalf of myself and my people, I confess our disregard of You. Bring Your people to repentance and let this nation once again be one who calls You “Lord.” In Jesus name. Amen.
Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.
