    Mouse fart loads

In the single shot rifle category I was reading about chamber ringing, most state that small powder charges in larger cases causes chamber ringing and excessive pressures. All my rifles 7mm, 7x30 waters, 30-30, 7.92x33, 32H&R, 7.62X39, 45-70 I want to use mouse fart loads. Am I asking for trouble? I have used a Dacron wad to hold powder in place in the past but, now I'm getting nervous. What is your thoughts on this?

First I have heard of this. Going to keep an eye on this thread as I shoot a lot of mouse farts in my 30-30 and a few others.

I will say your sposta use some filler for mouse farts. To bad cream of wheat is worth more then powder.

I use dacron filler with 2400/4227 and load 30-30/308/35rem/45/70 ,Lyman 46th edition gives lots of loads for cast using fillers .There is plenty of reading in the sticky section

No need for dacron in any mouse fart loads with Bulleye , Red Dot, American Select, or Unique If you need dacron you are using the wrong powder for light loads!!!

If you mean "mouse fart" or "cat sneeze" loads, you are subsonic with lighter-weight, soft lead, plainbased bullets or round balls appropriate for the calibver.

No filler is necessary, but stick to easily ignited pistol and shotgun powders. Good reference data here:

I shoot mouse fart loads in my 30-30, 32 WS and M1 Garand (1000-1300 fps generally). I do not use fillers and have had no issues-- but I only use fast burners. Mostly 700X and Herco-- because I have been able to get good prices on them. A good source is the Lyman Cast handbook 3rd edition. I also use the Lyman data for FMJ loads, but you have to work up carefully, since Boolits and bullets do not necessarily behave the same.

not true mouse fart, but the wife loves 10 grains of unique under lee's 230 grain in my old 06. No filler and plenty accurate.

I use any fast pistol or shot gun powder for "flatulent and allergy" load in all my pistols and rifles. The main thing you have to watch out for is a stuck boolit in the barrel! Not good. Otherwise, just start out low and work up to where you want. No filler needed.

Agree 100%. Never had an issue with fast powders and no filler. I have only seen one ringed chamber (not mine). It was with a medium powder and filler.

Lots of Red Dot here in various rifles with cast boolits and 4-5 grains of Red Dot with no problems.

Surprisingly good accuracy in some calibers. My best thus far was a single shot handi rifle in .357 mag.

Agreed. BTW, Promo uses the same data as RD at a lower cost. I have 8 jugs of Promo as I can use it in everything from 12 ga to light rifle loads.

What would be the slowest safe powder for "mouse farts"? I have been watching these threads lately and I am wondering about CFE Pistol specifically, but a general reference would be good. I have used trailboss in the past but last time I saw it at Scheel's it was $16/17 for 9oz!

I would not use anything slower than Unique or Universal.

I would not try to use a slower powder at low levels.

Smaller amount of fast powder does work just fine.

I think now how I started with reduced loads it was a learning curve. Now it seems I can get half decent groups without effort. Lots of fun, like riding a whale in a hurricane. Lot of loads here just search.
I never got on the filler bus, never enlarged flash holes except for 20 rounds earlier this year, just no need.
Unique is the go to powder second is titegoup. Lots of success with red dot to blue dot. A gentle push and good groups, it is all good!!!

Red/green Dot at 6-7 grains works great in my 30-30s up to '06. Also lets you use plain base. If you want to step it up, go to 16ish gr. of A2400 or (if you can find it) 20ish grains of 4759, but those aren't sneeze loads.

For some reason, I haven't had the same luck with TiteGroup.

Just don't double charge with the pistol/scattergun powders!
