I been playing with oxy blue for some time need to color the tip of my ruger 22/45 barrel that had some deep rust .I decreased and decreased clean and re-clean and for some strange reason the repair will not get dark or even close to the original blue black finish I have.
I heated the barrel with a hair dryer used plastic gloves decreased the steel wool
applied the oxyblue maybe 50 coats and still no luck .
I think I am going to try the boiling water trick and see how it turns out.
hey guys if I am missing something please chime in.

Never thought of that. I will give it a try since I have both.

These men and their hypnotized followers call this a new order. It is not new. It is not order.

Oxpho and T-4 from Brownells are my go to for touch ups. Have even used the T-4 for bigger jobs and find it blends well with original finishes if metal prep is good and several coats are used. Heating has always worked better for me rather than room temp.

I have a S&W 27-2 that had initials electropenned into the side plate, grip frame and the cylinder. The revolver is in good shape other than the engraving, I polished it all out by hand and used Oxpho blue to refinish it. It is more of a grey color for me than the nice dark blue factory finish, but it’ll do until I can afford to send it to S&W or Ford’s to be properly refinished.
