First go at smelting range lead! (Thanks to you guys)

    Good morning!

I don't post much on here beause I don't know much!
I have learned so much from all of you on this forum and have had so much fun doing it.
I have only been casting for a couple of years and it is a blast. Recently I got the chance to get a couple hundred pounds of range scrap from an indoor range, got myself a propane burner and dutch oven from Academy and Thursday night gave it a whirl.
Because of all the reading I have done on here it went great. I processed it all in one evening, 3 batches in the dutch oven, wound up with about 160 lbs of ingots (left some in bottom of Dutch oven for next time!)out of around 210 to start with, 40lbs of jackets, few pounds of dross. Great fun!Click image for larger version.

Thanks again for all the help, you guys probably have no idea how many peoples questions you answer on a daily basis, KUDOS and God Bless!

    Mitch,
I already cast some 38 swc last night just to see how they would fill out the mold, did have to add a few ounces of tin to my lee 20lb pot to get them to fill out nice and sharp. I plan on using this for my plinking/target handgun loads, esp 38 and 45acp so I will be trying this lead out in several molds.

Good Job! Glad it went smoothly for you. 3 batches in a setting is a lot of work, you did good.

Thanks guys! There is so much good info here that if you really do take the time to search and read it really makes that first attempt tons easier. Still have to learn as you go, but that is the fun part.
