A Tip for AR 15 Upper Source Please

Looking for the upper receiver pieces and parts to complete it, that is with bolt and bolt carrier and charging handle too.

    One best place for such?

    More than one?

NOT building a match upper, but it needs to be decent shooter.

The two I have bought from JSE I have been more than happy with, and the price at the times of purchase were the lowest I could find.

I get dealers prices for Brownells so for small orders I normally go through them. I normally purchase in volume to get greater discounts. For those I do web and go with the best quality verse price.

Which begs the question...how would you judge quality of one over another based on www purchase, i.e. sight unseen?

Web search for reviews and hanging out at http://www.ar15.com/forums/b/3_AR_15.html for general items. For specific competition builds the sites that cater to these disciplines are a good source of info. It makes a difference if you are looking parts for a three gun verse NRA match/ service rifles shooting 80 or 90 grain bullets. For the heavy bullets you want the heaviest bolt carrier you can find. For the 3 gun stand weight or lighter are preferred.

I can't give you one is the best answer. For general builds follow the crowds. Word tends to get out on good deals the same as substandard quality or service.

W/ certain parts there are a limited number of manufacturers. Lots of names being stamped on the same items. You will pay more because it has "X" name on it. I prefer to pay less if it doesn't have that name on it. Remember it's the same part.

A lot of the parts are built to MilSpec. Kind of hard to get a bad part when they are built to spec. You can definitely buy better quality but that's a decisions that's up to you.

There are a tons of reviews out there. I don't necessarily trust every one but you get an overall idea of how the part performs. I'm not saying you can't buy a bad part. But it's pretty hard to do at this time.

I've purchased from JSE and Radical Firearms and have been happy with both.
