I carry my get home supplies (basic tools, fire, water purification, medical, etc.) all in a tan colored photographer's vest in my truck at all times. It is fairly non-descript and distributes the weight evenly over the upper torso. That leaves both hands free. I also keep a broad brimmed hat and a waterproof jacket with hood in my truck. The jacket completely covers the vest and is long enough to conceal the pistol holster on my belt adding to looking normal and not standing out. I keep a lot more preps, particularly food and water, in the truck but may have to abandon them if striking out on foot to complete the journey home. I also carry a small 5 watt Baofeng UV-5RV handheld transceiver with extra batteries. I have preprogrammed the more than 100 memory positions with ham, SAR, fire, police, marine, business, and recreational frequencies at the local, state, and national levels.
