Mods to lee pot, no more drips

Got around to improving my setup. The damn thing always leaked pretty bad and I didn't like the setup. So I found an old dreidel and made a new stainless valve rod, smaller diameter, .187" vs .210". Works wonderfully! And if I ever get a leak, I can just give the knob a twist rather than the screwdriver fussiness. Also made a spot for the thermometer to live. I may still increase ease by making some levered actuation that's closer to the operator, but honestly simple is best and this is much more simple that factory and it works great.

Sat down and tried it today for a couple hours and it's much much better than stock!

Now for the pid controller....

More mods today. Acquired a cheap *** PID off eBay and rigged it up to a SSR I had laying around and crammed it all into the factory housing. Seems to work great!

Neat job, but mounting it all so close to a (high) heat source may be a problem. There are two things that electronics don't like - electrical spikes and heat.

I unscrewed the wooden knob on my Lee pot and put two heavy washers behind it. I feel the added weight keeps the stem tight against the spout

Somehow, I've managed to go nearly 60 years without ever having seen that word.

Actually, the object looks like either a wooden curtain rod end or a wooden spinning top.

Yeah. Maybe it is a simple spinning top. I always knew those as dreidels too, but maybe they aren't. Any Jews in the house can clear this up for us?

Re: heat source. Yeah, I thought about that, but, didn't care. It will be an experiment I suppose. Seems to work great so far! Love having real temp control!

Dreidels are used in games and they are spun like tops but need flat sides so they can show a number when they stop spinning; think a die that can spin (die = one of a pair of dice)
