It will take some time but I would use a coarse stone or a coarse diamond. It will take some time but you won't have to worry about getting the metal too hot.
That is the way I would do it but then again I won't take any of my knives to anything with a motor.

Slowly is the key. If you do get a motor involved, keep a pan of cold water near and keep it cooled down regularly.
About the only thing I've ever done close to your problem was to totally change an old butcher knife to suit me. Shortened it, redesigned the tip with a drop point. Did the big stuff with a chop saw, after that it was all file work and then stone.
Make a template of the tip you want, use magic marker to give you some guide lines.
