Any suggestions for 255gr .452 & 2400?

I'm looking for some suggestions to use 2400 with a powder coated Lee 452-255-RF.
This will be with a 45colt case used in a Blackhawk 454casull and a 1892 Winchester.
Presently I'm loading a 250gr XTP with 18.0gr of 2400 using magnum primers and am getting about 1100fps out of the 6 1/2" revolver and 1440fps out of the 24" rifle.

I would like to be above the standard 45colt velocities but below the 454casull, close to the present load I'm using.

I would appreciate any input, thanks.

THANKS jmsj for that link, it actually provides better confirmation than I expected and since I'm planning to use this primarily for hunting purposes.
Looks like I might already be close to where I want to be with this thing.
I'll need to get back with a range report but it will probably be after the holidays and our deer season.

Have you ever given thought to using around the load you are using with the 250 XTP?
Maybe starting a grain lighter and working up to maybe a grain heavier?
As you will find, as I have said many times, this isn't rocket science.
Cautious common sense is hard to beat.

That is exactly what I intend to do!
Due to the limited data using cast and 2400 and not having used powder coated stuff I was looking for someones experience in this situation.
I'll likely start off around 16.0gr and probably won't have the need to go all the way up to 18.0gr.

I got lucky with the XTP at 1100fps the first try, that is exactly where I wanted to be with it.

After painting and sizing they turned out averaging 262gr.
Now I'm real apprehensive about what the pressure might be shooting in the rifle.

Suggestions? Comments?

Are you quibbling over 12 gr bullet weight from a 250 XTP bullet in a 454 Casull handgun when you are using a load that is far enough under 454 Casull pressure as to be piddling?
As I said this isn't rocket science.
Start a little below and work up.
I use 19 gr 2400 with a SAA 270 gr bullet in a Ruger New Vaquero.
Just use your head with cautious common sense.
Again you are quibbling over 12 gr bullet weight in a 454 Casull when you are using a load that is not top even for a Ruger Blachawk in 45 Colt???
I don't understand. Maybe I am missing something. Explain it to me.

My concern is with the 1892 Winchester handling the pressure. I'm not worried about the 454 revolver.
I'd really like to keep the same cartridge for both the rifle and pistol.

Look at Buffalo Bore Ammo sight and see what he says is safe in an 1892 Winchester with his +P 45 Colt loads. They are far above yours.
You need to study and learn.
My Hornady manual list 20.8 gr 2400 with a WLP primer for the Blackawk loads with the 250 XTP.
Dont you have a manual? If not you need to get two or three to be in the "know."

Hornady data with 2400, 250 XTP, WLP and Hornady cases 19.7 gr start to 20.8 max for the Blackawk 45 Colt.

Hornady data for the 300 gr XTP at 1.580 OAL is 18 gr max for the 45 Colt Blackhawk.

Thanks for directing me to the Buffalo Bore site, I had forgotten about it when I did the XTP loads and was worried about the pressures then. Been a couple of years.
I've got 8 manuals, just nothing specific using cast at these velocities.
I'm just a little cautious when experimenting and deviating from certain loads. You've put me at ease with my primary concern knowing the load you are using.

Thanks for correcting yourself and yes I see Hornady lists the 300gr XTP with 18.0gr at 1150fps and the 250gr with 20.8 at 1250fps.

For what it's worth, I got very good results with a 454-424 over 17.5 grains of 2400. You can certainly go hotter, if you are so inclined, but that was good for my purposes.

As others have stated, I think all the guns you have listed are up to the pressures you are talking about. I just want to add that based on my own experience with the 452-255RF, you should reduce 454424 loads by a grain or two to start. That Lee boolit is a good one, but it does take up more powder space than the Keith boolit.

Well the 452-255-RF powder coated unknown alloy BHN11 boolits weighing in at 262gr sized to .452" are scooting along at 1130fps out of the 6 1/2" revolver and 1500fps from the 24" rifle pushed with 18.0gr of 2400 and CCI350 primers.
Think I'm good with that!
