October 2016 BPCR Match Results

Congratulations to Dave Heeter, winner of the final BPCR match of 2016 with a score of 31. Upcoming shooter Kevin Burge turned in a 30 to earn 2nd Open, and yours truly Craig Duncan was 3rd with a 27. In Scope, Brian Chilson and Ed Heeter tied at 28, with Brian claiming 1st Scope in a shoot-off by a single chicken. Roger Tremba was 3rd Scope with a 26. We had a total of 18 competitors shooting 20 rifles, which is a good turnout for October. See below for complete results.

It was a strange day for weather. We started with unseasonably warm temps in the morning with cloud cover and light variable winds. Darkening clouds affected visibility by late morning, when some of us were on rams and others on chickens. Then a front blew through. The brief but torrential rain was nature's way of saying that yes, we would take a lunch break after all. In short, the choice of starting on pigs vs. turkeys made a bigger difference than usual, and probably half of us would have traded places with the other half. On the plus side, there was no mirage.

We celebrated several accomplishments. We welcomed new BPCR shooter Shaun Letham, whose 24 earned him a spot in AA. And we had 3 grand slams - Shaun, Gordon Clefton, and John Sweka all knocked down 10 pigs.

Reflecting on the year, attendance at matches was up about 30% compared to 2015. We welcomed five brand new BPCR shooters, along with several more returning after a long absence.

Thank you to everyone who helped us run the matches this year - range work, cleaning, line calling, trash emptying, office work, etc.

Over the winter I'll be working with the club and we'll send out a newsletter once we have match dates for 2017. In the meantime, enjoy the holidays and make lots of ammo so we'll see you at Ridgway next year!
Sincerely,

Craig Duncan
