My order from NOE arrived today. I purchased only the die body set and one sizer bushing for .268".
I had wondered why the body set was $39.95 but instead of thinking too much I just ordered the set.
What arrived today was a bunch of stuff. The threaded die body, the "pusher" that goes in the shell holder, the size bushing itself stamped with the size, and 5 other pieces that I had no idea what they were for.
But alas! When in doubt read the dang directions! Yes, full color printed directions come with this set of ~things~.
Three of the "things" are what I'd call upside down funnels that are sized for different bullet diameters that are rather guides to the upper ejection port, for lack of a better term. All these parts are beautifully machined.
The other two remaining parts surprised me because I am not of the masochistic breed that, like some of you, size the NOSE portion of a cast bullet to achieve some usually missing sense of nirvana in the spinning of cast bullets down the bore.
This set from NOE allows nose first or base first sizing and.... nose sizing with these 2 extra parts are what I would call the "ejection" punch that you smack down with your hand after sizing the nose of the offending obese cast bullet nose.
I really didn't take the time to learn all the features of what this bushing sizer set actually did before I ordered it and therefore was unprepared for having to actually refer to instructions for what I thought would be a simple extra doo-dad for the loading bench.
Truth be known, I came upon the NOE forum talking about this new product just weeks ago while I was perusing Google-Images studying push-through dies using Titanium Nitride neck sizing bushings. In my machine shop practice I enjoy utilizing ~existing~ technology in innovative ways to achieve the design ultimatum. Instead I saw the NOE idea as a satisfying alternative and there ya go.
The base-first and nose sizing aspects utilize Lyman/RCBS nose punches. All the parts of this set are close tolerance and beautifully machined. Considering the die body and associated parts the $39.95 price isn't out of line. The sizer bushings are $9.75 each and the pusher part for the shell holder are $7.50 each.
Though I've not used this set yet I think it is beautifully designed and executed.
