forget the thinner just do the shake and bake read the threads
White isn't the easiest for coating, but just do two shake-n-bake coats and see if it isn't much better! I'm not familiar with that powder.

The shake and bake wont stick.
Do the colours make a difference?
I now have some green Dulux PC,bet you've never heard of that either!
Did you try the AirSoft black .25gram BB's in a CoolWhip or other #5 recyclable container and shake the heck-fire out of it?
KE4GWE - - - - - - Colt 1860, it just feels right.
I should add that I am not using the powder you are.
Bubbling is the thinner outgassing.
Do away with the thinners
Use 25 gram black bbs. #5 triangle marked containers
shake & bake

I am not crazy my mom had me tested
Theres a fine line between genius and crazy .. I'm that line
and depending on the day I might just step over that line !!!
Some people use a single layer of BB's in the bottom, some like it about 3 layers deep. I personally use about 1/4 of the container as BB's, but it's all just a personal preference. You can always add more BB's as you go, depending on the coverage. Test it out with more or less. I do start with just a little powder, perhaps a small spoonful. Then you can always add more powder very easily until you get better coverage. You don't want so much powder in there that you get clumping instead of covering. Just start off with a little and shake it a while (sometimes pretty hard!) and then see if an of the powder is sticking. Add more powder if needed, but try to keep it on the light side until you get the process to work. You can always pick the boolits out, bake them, and when they cool you can return them to the container to tumble again and bake again. Two or even three times if needed until you find your best technique. I would definitely try to find a container with the number 5 inside a triangle on the bottom. If I remember correctly, LDPE is #4 and doesn't generate as much static.
The white BB's do work for some, so I know that it is possible with them.
If you can, order some powders from Smoke4320. He's the powder man! He also sells black BBs. He might even have a extra CoolWhip bowl!!!
He talked of making a whole "kit" at one time where everything you needed was in the box. Hey Smoke.... throw some HF forceps in there and you'd have the complete tumble at home kit.... less NSAF and an oven!!! Good luck and happy coating!

Marky, I just got started in pc'ing.
Smoke, Beagle and Bangerjim, give advice that comes from a lot of trial and error. Listen to them. Then you can be like me and the caveman, "It is so easy......."

It really is easy.I'm SO thankful to all you pioneers that got this PC thing down.Read Read Read. Its all been covered including what doesn't work.Just a little homework will save hours of work not to mention frustration.
Not sure but the thinner you used may have changed the chemical composition of the powder so when baking it doesn't work out as well.
Forget the solvent! You are getting outgassing of the VOC's and that is making the PC bubble up. Solvent methods are old school. We played with that B4 we discovered a teeny weeny bit-o-static could be generated in a coolwhip bowl with 2-3 layers of BLACK airsoft BB's and some powder in it. Swirl HARD for several minutes and shake HARD up and down for 20 or so seconds.
98% of us (sorry Beagle!?!?) use the BBDT method as described above and in MANY threads. Read. Follow all the rules and suggestions to eliminate any other "things" that might hinder your success. Some on here just seem hades-bent on doing it "other" ways and lead new comers down a winding path of failure.
BBDT does work! Very well! Do it just the way we all describe it. No substitutions. Get a bottle of HF red. It is the beginner's powder and is very cheap. Do NOT use any other HF colors!!!!!!!! Once you are successful, you can then begin "playing around" (if you want to) with other methods and materials, using your success as a guideline.
Good luck. Just keep trying.
bangerjim
I use it.... but only when it's too windy to spray. I got some kind of static-dampening genes in me or something!!

Beagle, maybe your ground lead isn't making good connection when you are shaking the cool whip container!
And Smoke4320 is your "one shop stop". Tried, proven and tested.

trash those powders and get some from smoke4320 in the vendor section, he has a list of powders that will work with asbbtumble method.
all powder is not created even, and fighting powder is not for first timers, the exasperation is not worth it.
HF red DOES work very well. It was the 1st powder I used to experiment with BBDT 3 years ago and it coated perfect the 1st time. I developed several coating techniques employed on this forum using it. I still use it in the bowl and in my ESPC guns. And I use Smoke's powder also.
Don't throw it away. Just figure out what you need to do to get it to work in your unique situation. That will help you understand the technique and improve your methods in the future.
ONE coat is all I ever use or need.
bangerjim - holding my mouth right........all the time
Thanks for all the replies.
I found a number 5 icecream container.
I see HF red is $6.
Would any of you kind gentlemen be willing to supply me a bottle please? All costs covered of course.
I don't think HF will post to New Zealand.
