What type of wood are you trying to size? I normally use a chainsaw and hydraulic splitter. Anything else is to much work.
New to cast have moulds for 45 lc 270 gr SAA rcbs& 44mag 250 Keith the 45 is for a rug er bisley blackhawk & 44 mag is for # 29 S&W I had planed to use wheel weights 9# to 1# of 50/50. Solder for the Keith mould .l just wanted some what to buy good / bad lumber /sizer ideas thanks
Welcome to the board Fireball! There are lots of options for your choice of LUBER sizer The Lyman or the RCBS sizer will work for your sizing needs, not high output machines but with practice you can lube a lot of boolits. High output and high price the Star is hard to beat. You can also tumble lube with Ben's liquid lube or Lee's alox and use the Lee push sizers. Do a little reading on each method and let your means guide your decision. I hope this is of help to you. Bill
Thanks Bill
If you are lubing for wheelguns, you probably won't need super high production like a Star will give. And it doesn't look like you're sizing rock hard rifle boolits either, so I would suggest trying a Lyman 4500 or maybe even an older 450 if you can find one. If you wanted to size harder boolits with it, I would look into either the Saeco sizer or the RCBS Lube-a-matic sizer.
The Star is the top of the line and will cost much more than the others and will probably have the capability for much more output than you need. (however they ARE nice.)
So I would say, find a used 450 or 4500 and you only need two dies for it with those two calibers. You can select your lube then and if you use a softer one you won't need a heater and if you select a harder lube, a desk lamp or just a shop light holding a 40-60W bulb very close to the sizer will do for heat and you won't have to buy a heater until you find out if that setup is going to be long term for you.
Good luck on it. There is LOTS to read here. The Google Custom Search window (on the right side of the menu bar up top) is your friend and will find many, many older threads and information on sizers and lubers.

Thanks very helpful
Also consider powder coating--PC. I started out with Harbor Freight Red PC, a #5 plastic container (number on bottom is 5) and a $20 toaster oven. For sizing have a Lee push through sizer. Very cheap way to get started and it's one of the newest things in bullet "lubing"
Quick view: put bullets and PC in container, shake for 30 sec, give or take. Put coated bullets on tray lined with non-stick tin foil or parchment paper and back in toaster oven for 20 min at 400ºF. Let cool, run though Lee sizer and done.

PC is way to go if you do not want to take a 2nd on your house for a lubra-matic thingy. I dumped grease 3 years ago (as many on here have) and have not looked back!

Any idea what years Star Machine Co. first made those little lubers? I bought one at the local gun-show for $20 today.

Nice try Jim, I'd stick to sizing lumber.
