Loads for RD's 425gr in 450 Marlin?

Does anyone have any load data for RD's 425gr .460 boolit in 450 Marlin? I'm not looking for full house stuff- just something to get started. I have 20 different powders. Hopefully someone has some data to go with one of them.

I have a chart posted for H4895 and really need to get back on this "grunt" work. The farm type work is coming to a close here on the ranch with the planting of all my whitetail deer food plots this week and next. I'm pretty much done with all my bullet design and testing. Nephew coming in a few weeks to help.

Thanks, Michael. I saw the one posted for 45-70 but I can't get the link for 450 to open.. Also, H4895 is one powder I don't have. I have H4198, H322, and IMR4895, though. lol

BTW I love the molds and I got the sizer kit today. That sure was a quick turn-around! The first coat of LLA is barely dry- and here I thought I'd have a couple days to get the gas checks on the boolits before the sizer came. Now I'm "under pressure"! I can't wait to get some of these to the range!

I'll focus on the 350gr for now.

Thank John. Yes, no data on the 450 Marlin yet but will get to it real quick. I try to shoot all these to calibers together, 45/70 Govt. and 450 Marlin, and simply put it is brutal. A days shooting is about 200 rounds.

I don't have The RD460-425, but I do shoot several 420 gr GC bullets in my 450 Marlin GG. Consider 48.0 to 48.5 grs of H322 as MAX load. BenchMark will have an almost identical max. IMR 3031 will go maybe a grain hotter for max. I find that my gun shoots best in the 45.0-47.5 grain range with those powders. For the absolute best accuracy, use Federal 210M primers. They will make a difference at longer range and with your ES.

You can also check around on MarlinOwners and LeverGunLovers forums. Lot of 450 owners there and there is some data posted on each site. Beartooth Bullets also has some data for their 425 gr PileDriver Jr. which will be close.

Be conservative cause Marlins don't exhibit normal overpressure signs (primer flattened, hard extraction, or even case head expansion) at their max. Real easy to step over the line and not know it. This is based on loads tested by Hodgdon's lab.

I hear you, Michael! I hate to think about 200 rds of 450 Marlin in a day!

Actually, that's one of the reasons I'm going to work on a "plinking" load. I love to shoot my 450, but the ringing in my head takes too long to go away.

10-12 grains of Unique is a nice plinker load in the .45-70, should be
fine in the .450, find the most accurate range for your particular rifle.

Cheap, accurate, no filler required.
