    Ideal 311413

Saw a guy selling this one - anyone think this boolit could be used in 7.62x39mm? I know it's heavy for the caliber, but the diameter should be right.

Just asking. Thank you for any reply other than "NO, and you're an idiot!"

It would be long and heavy for that cartridge, especially in an auto....

    My 311413 drops at a generous .313.

As Ken mentioned, it is a bit long for an SKS/AK 47, but not for a bolt gun. Weight may not be a problem either if you don't hot rod it: I used to use Ly. #314299 and a Privi Partizan 180gr. FMJ SP in my SKS, albeit single loaded. The other problem as per Ken's advice is more significant. To wit, some bolt action 7.62 x 39mm's are based on English dimensions and -413 probably will require sizing to fit the bore. Metric bores, not so much. Btw, my two SKS's required .314" CB's (that one was sold long ago) and the current one, .3155". NOE makes a nice mould for metric bores in case you're interested. The NOE/SKS CB is on the right.

    Maven has good advice.

I had purchased mine from a reputable board member knowing it was a bit oversized. My intention was to use it in 7.62x54r. The boolit shape is perfect for that cartridge. Accuracy has been disappointing in my rifles so far. I wonder if a harder alloy would help to get a fatter size. My test rifle has .300 bore, .312 groove, and a short .314 throat. It shoots .312 j words very nicely.

As Maven pointed out, your rifle(s) bore, groove and throat will dictate your path. If you have a tighter bore they may work. If it's a typical metric com bloc barrel, I would pass.

My bolt action CZ 527M does well with .311 sized boolits, like the 160 grai Lee, the 155 gr Lee and the excellent 129 gr NOE. This was just to add another option, if it's cheap enough. I've also been told that it is very speed sensitive, and the molds are notorious for dropping narrow.

I use the 311413 in my 03A3 '06 with 11 or 12 grs. of any of the fast burning pistol and shotgun powders. Good accuracy on the SR-1 reduced target at 100 yds. ACWW's, of course.
