I built a cutting guide for making strips out of aluminum coil stock.

The two 8-32 machine screws set the depth, the third 8-32 screw holds the aluminum when I score it with a box cutter.
Once scored the coil stock bent using the guide then bent back.
Once out of the guide it only takes small pressure to break the aluminum at the bend.
This guide will serve for 30 cal and 303 so I waste 1.5mm of material on each strip when I use the 30 Cal Freechex maker.

It took about 3 minutes to turn 3 feet of coil stock into 12mm (0.472") wide strips.
Each strip provides 25 or 26 gas checks
    Sorry for the metric folks,

those old school paper cutters would work really well, the ones with the big handle that slices about 2 foot strips. I've been keeping an eye out at goodwill but haven't come across one yet.

I use a Harbor Freight paper cutter. Worked well but was slow. Buying preslit rolls is worth the extra cost for me.

What seems amazing is the uniformity of the holes cut in the strips. Some sort of stop on index involved ??

All done by eyeball, Do enough and they look like they are uniform, believe me they are not.
There is up to 3/32 difference between the holes if you look closely
Some sort of indexing device would get me 1 or 2 more checks per strip.
