    Roto sells reclaimed shot
is this stuff clean enough to make into lovly ingots?
i wanted to get some superhard
and to make it worthwhile (the free shipping thing), thought i might pad the order with shot

Is there a trick to melting shot? I've tried melting reclaimed lead shot and some very old (though unused) lead shot. Neither seem to completely melt, leaving a heavy residue on the surface of the melt. I use a Lee pot that seems to work fine for everything else, including lino and wheelweights.

^Probably graphite coating from the shot.

Perhaps that's the problem. Any recommendations for removing the graphite coating , such as a degreaser?

Thank you; I'll try a more adequate fluxing next session.

My hint.... in all my smelts [ALL NASTY STUFF]]

    1. Flux
    2. Flux
    3. Flux
    4. Flux

my 'base flux' is sawdust with sulfur. Nos 1,2,3. No 4 is Wax. In smelt pot for No. 1 I cover bottom of pot with sawdust/sulfur before adding heat and smelt material. I scored some toilet bowl wax rings from a demo sight and flux with 1/2 of one of those before i cast ingots.

EBAY..'reclaimed'... bubba smelted it...guaranteed good alloy... no.. never.. always 'bad' stuff to me ... and smelt thinking that way...

I got 1,000 LBS "lead" from a demo refinery... 50% was aluminum! Flux...mix...Flux...mix...Flux...mix...Flux...mix.

    Nose Dive

Cheap, Fast, Good. Kindly pick two.
